What in your opinion is the appropriate age for giving a child cell phones/mobile?
at what age would you give your child a cell phone?

a kid shouldnt be allowed to have a fone let alone the age ..
i mean millions of years before .. kids did okay .. got on with life without a fone ..so what need is there for a kid to have a fone.

in Pakistan kids are not allowed to use cell phones in school so it would very much depend on my daughter's school if they allow it and when they allow it.
otherwise would like my daughter to keep cell phone as young as 7-8 years as it can get me in contact with her instantly

Children do not need cellphones, my daughter can get one when she starts driving.

my cousin’s got phones at 7 and 8 too but i think if you give your kid a phone that young in these times, you also have to teach them not to talk to or text with or give their number out to strangers- just like you’d teach them not to do those things in person- the same principle applies to social media usage too, i would think. i think i’d wait until my kid was old enough to be responsible for it and not lose the handset every second day (although my 20 year old sil has done that enough times at her age lol 
) and also when they were old enough to contribute to the bill in some way- through chores or a summer job or something along those lines.

We can't compare it to when we got ours. The world is a different place. My child isn't waiting till grad school like I did.
But my child will turn the phone off and hand it to me when at home. Any phone calls from friends should come to the house.
