Re: APPOINTMENT OF A WOMAN TO CONDUCT MUSLIM MARRIAGES . GREAT NEWS FOR WOMEN'S RI
A woman facing jail in Iran for speaking out against the regime of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has denounced the country's Islamic revolution for "destroying a generation" of Iranians.
Parvin Ardalan, 41, said women and religious and cultural minorities faced discrimination under the hard-line policies adopted by Tehran after the mullahs seized power in 1979.
Miss Ardalan is due to fly to Stockholm this week to receive the Olof Palme Prize for outstanding achievement, which has previously been awarded to Kofi Annan, the former United Nations secretary general, and Aung San Suu Kyi, the Burmese pro-democracy opposition leader.
Her campaign to secure equal rights for women was gathering pace, despite the efforts of the authorities to prevent her and her fellow campaigners from speaking out.
"I am from the destroyed generation of the revolution," she said. "I always ask myself what happened that within a few months it was suddenly bad for me to ride a bicycle as a girl. I was thrown out of school for not wanting to wear a headscarf."
mISS Ardalan, one of the founders of a campaign to secure a million signatures in support of equality for Iranian women, was sentenced to three years in jail last April, accused of threatening national security - a serious charge in a society where a number of dissidents have recently died in custody. She is appealing against the decision.
In Tehran last week, people attacked officials attempting to arrest young women for wearing colourful clothing.
A crowd of about 2,000 started fighting with the officials, who had to flee. Two police officers were badly beaten in the incident as the crowd chanted: "We don't want the Islamic republic."
I think you have a problem.
You have seen false interpretation of Islam as true Islam... (which millions of muslims practice)
Vast majority of muslims:
Do not mary their daughters to older men.
Do not force women into something they do not like.
Do not condone older ways of life as it existed over 1400 years ago.
Respect and cherish women as being the partners in their lives.
Grow family together, men and women alike.
Never force a woman to wear hijab etc.
Men work and women run household, but free to go to school, colleges, work, be a doctor, nurse, enginner, social worker, teacher, politician, banker or whatever.
Reject any form of torture against a human being.
etc. etc. etc.
You seem to be an extremist, hateful and too sensitive and yet call others names.
My advice: Please open your eyes and look around you or meet muslim family members instead of being a keyboard jockey.
There are so many 'weaknesses' in religions other than Islam which suppressed, tortured and humiliated women over the periods of centuries.
You seem to be comparing modern life style (not religions) with older social ways in Islamic era. Not fair.
Islam came to rescue women from being suppressed and broke illogical, insensible and humiliating practices against women.
Along the way, several so called Aalims added their ow inerpretations in to Islam. Not the fault of Islam or vast majority of muslims who follow religion based on its core values and respect for all mankind.
Again it may not be your fault as you have not seen or experienced Islam as it was brought after Moses (AS), Christ (AS), by Muhammad (PBUH).
BTW: Just because you perform acts on your own does not mean people should agree with you or your version of islam. Nor you have any obligation to agree with me. You will answer to Allah and so will others in privacy.
And lastly for extremist feminists: God, Allah, Bhagwan is male figure...........go figure! :-)
Oops, did I touch any sensitive nerve of someone?
