It was acceptable in all faiths when a girl had her menstrual cycle for the first time even if she was as young as nine to marry them off. Society has evolved from this heinous practice. Today because society has evolved it is not necessary to marry a girl to a man in his forties. This is pedophilia whether by marriage or not. SHe never said Islam must be defeated , she said the mysoginistic principles of marrying girls off to men should be defeated and many practices societies condoned against women back then are by todays standards corrupt and awful. SOciety has evolved and so must religion. She has knowledge and experience and indepth understanding of Islam. She wrote of her own experiences in her faith and realized much which was taught to her has no place in todays society. She escaped from a marriage she was forced to have with an old man. She has experienced the mysoginistic principles that men have used against women by using the Islamic faith unappropriately to control a woman's life.

And as for the new fascism much that has been done within under Islamic rule to people in Afghanistan is nothing short of FACISM. Christians promoted facism in WWII , is was christian facism. The book burning in Afghanistan, the removal of girls and banning them from school, etc in afghanistan is a clear example of facism. To deny this is not to be critically objective but blind ignorance continuing the facist perpretation by mullahs, clerics and their supporters.

Do you really believe Christianity of middle ages is applicable to todays society? NOT AT ALL. I recall reading an article on the internet about a young teenage girl in canada recently who did not want to wear the headscarf. Her father choked her to death after her brother went to find her and bring her home. Therefore, how many of the millions of muslimahs cover their head of their own accord? Perhaps fear of the men in their family is the reason why a greater percentage to do. WOmen are to be treated not like queens but as equals. Pakistani culture had a hard fight last year when women fought against the law which punished them when they were raped while the rapist escaped penality. These are all baby steps for women's rights but be aware brother the steps will continue to grow. If Pkistani cultere teaches men to treat women with respect how is it the Pakistani goverment was the first to recognize TaLIBAN RULE and yet this Taliban goverment persecuted and denegrated women in the name of Islam? Why is Ok for a girl in Pakistan to attend University but not under Taliban rule? How can you reconcile both countries Islamic practices as being fare to women and treating women as equals with respect when in each country Islam has failed women to a very detrimental and sacriligious existence.

How is it my father recognizes Islam needs to change its image and the dogma it pursues by men who use it against women's rights and independence?

You have seen false interpretation of Islam as true Islam... (which millions of muslims practice)

Vast majority of muslims:

Do not mary their daughters to older men.
Do not force women into something they do not like.
Do not condone older ways of life as it existed over 1400 years ago.
Respect and cherish women as being the partners in their lives.
Grow family together, men and women alike.
Never force a woman to wear hijab etc.
Men work and women run household, but free to go to school, colleges, work, be a doctor, nurse, enginner, social worker, teacher, politician, banker or whatever.
Reject any form of torture against a human being.
etc. etc. etc.

You seem to be an extremist, hateful and too sensitive and yet call others names.

My advice: Please open your eyes and look around you or meet muslim family members instead of being a keyboard jockey.

There are so many 'weaknesses' in religions other than Islam which suppressed, tortured and humiliated women over the periods of centuries.

I will probably get alot of criticism for what I am bout to say but nevertheless I feel it is true.

There is a reason why men have been created stronger both physically and mentally than women. There are certain things men are allowed to do which women cannot in Islam. For example, a woman must pray behind the man, 2 female witnesses equal a male witness, etc.

Allah has done all this for a reason. After all, noone is a greater planner than Allah (SWT) himself. By saying that there is now a woman who can perform nikkah in no way means things are getting better or that we are being granted more "freedom." Yes I am a woman myself but in no way does it make me happy knowing this. In fact, it makes me feel sad knowing that women are not content enough with the role Islam has provided for them. For what reason do these women feel the need to go out and stand shoulder to shoulder with men? Yes, some of us live in the Western world and that is something we are required to do on a daily basis, but once we go home and pray or enter that mosque, it is behind the curtain, behind the men we pray, not shoulder to shoulder with them. Let's not forget out religous roots.

In the Quran, and I will cite the ayah for whomever is interested, it says that the time will come when in Islam people think they are doing good when in fact it is causing destruction. On Youtube the other day, me and my brother were watching women leading prayers, giving khutbas and shaking hands with men in the mosque as if it were something to be proud about. When Allah has commanded something, why do we insist on changing it? Why do women still insist on being equal to men?

Islam is a religion of moderation and in no way does it make women to be inferior to men. So the lady can perform nikkah and get people married, but what will she answer to Allah?
