applying eyeshadow

hello,

i am a big fat looser when it comes to applying makeup even though i love it. nowadays i want to apply makeup a bit more. i have seen countless no.of videos on how to do the two shades smokey eyes.

however,my eyeshadow are always appearing too powderish and the end result is never the same as in the videos. the colors dont stay on the eyelids.

do you have any tips for beginners?
best brush to use? best technique?

Use an eye primer (urban decay is my fav) and instead of swiping on the eye shadow build the color by patting the color on to the eyelid with a brush. You can also use a darker color say red as the base and build a lighter color like pink on top of the red for a deeper pigment.

Re: applying eyeshadow

There are a few things that will help in your application. I’ll try to explain each one.

  • Have good brushes. What is a good brush is debatable. Some people thing only high-end is the best, others will disagree. IMO, these days there are many companies producing wonderful mid-price range brushes. Also, you can’t go wrong with artist quality paint brushes. So many dupes for MAC brushes with those. What you need for a beginner is aflat shadow brush, and a fluffy blending brush. They should be densely packed.

  • Good eyeshadow primer. My personal fav is Too Faced Shadow Primer. The primer helps the longevity of the shadow on your eye, and in some cases can make your shadow look brighter

  • Shadow base - Sometimes even a primer can’t help the shadow stick on your eyelid, so then you have to get a shadow base. It’s kindy sticky, so it helps. A really good affordable one is NYX Shadow Base. Alternatively you could use NYX Milk Jumbo Pencil. The white color will help pop the colors and make it more obvious. MAC makes paint pots which do the same thing.

  • Good eye shadows. Now like everything else this doesn’t have to be expensive. And like other things, drug stores are churning out awesome products. But, sometimes some shadows, regardless of price, can be extremely chalky and sheer.

What you can do is maybe do a wet application to help with the shadow appear on. Pack your eye shadows on your eyes, don’t use a stroke motion when applying, just pat it on. Also, try something simpler when learning eye shadow application. Smokey eye is actually harder to do than a simple 2-shadow look.

Re: applying eyeshadow

thank you.

i checked my few brushes and now know which one good to use

i just bought a no.7 trio eyeshadow in brown gold n white shades.

should i first apply the brown over whole lid and then add the gold?

Re: applying eyeshadow

Just use the 2 basic brushes I mentioned. Start with those.

As for the color placement, I would place the gold on the lid, and brown on the crease + outer third/V of the eye, and use the white as highlight on the brow bone and corner of the eye . Kinda like this:

Now I feel like doing eye make up :teary1:

Those brows…

But you must! eye makeup thread's missing you <3

Re: applying eyeshadow

I think eyeshadow primer and shadow base make quite a difference. In experience, they make the eyeshadow show up a bit better, especially with lighter shades.
