application disappears????

hey,

ok there is a problem in my laptop…when i try to run an application/software (be it from cd, usb, internet) it starts and then it just disappears-i mean the setup window just disappears…same is happening when i am trying to open administrative tools via control panel…this never used to happen before with my laptop…anybody knows what could be the cause?

COUld it be that some malware is stopping you from running new applications?

so what do you think will happen tomorrow in NA 122?

scratching head can u verify that START > RUN > services.msc [enter] opens up? and if it does, can you verify that "SERVER" and "WORKSTATION" services are running ?

@TLK....hmmm i am not too sure i'll try run an anti-virus if it lets me

@confused....ok it sounds weird but the run command is not in the startup any more...it was there before and i have no idea how to get it back?

Got to task manager and see if your application is there . In the processes . If it is not loading then just kill it and try loading again . May be there are other processes running on your machine that are taking up too much memory and processing . Kill them too and see if it loads .

You need to clean up your system more often and add more RAM to it .

based on your opening message and this one, i am thinking that you (by mistake) or someone started/applied/ran something called GROUP POLICY .. somewhere in that policy there are settings to hide the run option, disable autorun from REMOVABLE media (cd/usb/network) ... would u be able to copy the files to your hard drive/desktop and run from there? or they do the same thing ?

google "TWEAKUI" (part of microsoft power toys series) download that, save it on your desktop/mydocuments/somewhere in C drive and see if you can run it.

if that doesnt work, and IT IS the case of group policy OR a malware/spyware/virus then your most value-added activity would be to move out your data/backup somewhere else and reformat pc, and re-install windows..

Is this your laptop or company/work? If its company/work, you are probably on a domain so going through the trouble that confused suggested wouldn’t help, the settings will just come back after you format.

If you see the application run and then it disappears, most likely, you have other issues with the laptop. Try running anti-spyware/anti-virus on that laptop and see if it helps?

Download this:
Malwarebytes.org and run FULL scan, leave your pc for couple of hours… after its done scanning, click on show results and remove everything. It may ask you that program needs to reboot in order to remove some malware, do it.

Then, install antivirus, one of the free ones like AVAST or AVG should work fine. Google the names to find the sites.

And when its fixed, don’t visit websites that are known to give people these issues… like porn, warez, illegal software sites, free stuff sites, free music/video/online movies, bittorrents, etc. And if you need to visit those sites, KNOW what you are clicking.
