Apple's '5' event on 12th september

Re: Apple's '5' event on 12th september

AAliyah, What, that was not supposed to be funny :(

TLK, why you calling Apple and Samsung girls? :(

Re: Apple's '5' event on 12th september

How many of the people u kmow have bought IP5? From my circle not a single one, though few have bought S3.

Re: Apple's '5' event on 12th september

^ could it be because IP5 started selling today?

Re: Apple’s ‘5’ event on 12th september

They are boys? :hmmm:

Re: Apple's '5' event on 12th september

sorry, i was talking about pre-order or plans to buy one. I do remember many had ordered for 4s or were awaiting one, i don't see that enthusiaism this time around. I have IP4, but at present not hinking of IP5 or S3.

Re: Apple's '5' event on 12th september

I agree with you TLK that Apple has a reputation. No doubt.

But you have to admit that S3's success is no fluke. You use the product and know that it's a lovely piece of gadgetry. I'm surprised to hear about the S2 reviews you mentioned. I was talking with your friend 2 days ago who owns an S2 and said he doesn't even want to move on to the S3 as he's so satisfied with it. And then your other buddy in Windsor shares the same sentiments about S2. I've heard that from even Tofi who was extremely satisfied with his S2, and a few other folks that we know. Talk about word of mouth references. The release of the S3 a couple months ago was harmonious and yes maybe there isn't a new S product every year...but it's better to have a new product in 2 years that has more weighable meat to it than just release a new product every year and shock the audience like they did on Sept. 12!

Re: Apple's '5' event on 12th september

You probably missed my post #86. Apple ran out of IP5 inventory in first 4 hours.

Re: Apple's '5' event on 12th september

Nik has shares in Samsung.

Re: Apple’s ‘5’ event on 12th september

Sorry, I just had to laugh at that coz am a SRK fan, but am so glad am not 16 anymore :cb:

Re: Apple's '5' event on 12th september

It was in response to that post, i was wondering why?

Re: Apple’s ‘5’ event on 12th september

LOL, I wish Samsung at least paid me something for every S3 I’ve sold for them :D. But alas! No, it’s just that I seriously think it’s a great phone and we need to “understand” that than allow our attachment to Apple sway us. I will admit that I cannot look beyond my Apple laptop and think all other laptops are jaahil. It’s a serious flaw on my part but I’m willing to accept it.

 oops.

Re: Apple's '5' event on 12th september

Yes I heard the bad S2 review from one person only, so that might be an isolated experience.

But it is going be to very hard for any company to take away the legacy that apple built in last many years. The shock from IP5 is not because its not a great product, but because people have raised the expectation level so high when it comes to apple release that anything less than a magic wand is not going to give the product a wow factor. Even then Apple is predicting to break all previous sales record, and currently Apple shares are all time high.

Re: Apple's '5' event on 12th september

^^ Buy some stocks while you're at it :D!

I don't think any company is even trying to compete with Apple's legacy. I think it's the Apple fans who feel the need to protect it from impending doom via a sudden rise of competitors. It's more a psychological consumer attitude, and that is what causes this hype. That's pretty much what Lucid was talking about above.

Re: Apple’s ‘5’ event on 12th september

Well, we could do a poll :hmmm:

Re: Apple's '5' event on 12th september

Apple makes quality product and People like it. Yes image factor is there but thats the marketing and every company strive for that. I don't see a reason to hate on apple loyalist just because they like a quality product and want to stick with that company which is consistent and have built a reputation. Marketing is an essential part of any business but if you don't have a great product it can only do so much. Apple created a standard to compete against and continue to produce quality products. Samsung, htc etc are great phones but does that mean Apple now need to bend the law of physics and only then people should buy their phone? I think not.

Re: Apple's '5' event on 12th september

BTW when the IP5 finally hits the market, do go and check it out even if you are not buying it. It is beautiful and has a great feel in the hand. Very sleek and light.

Re: Apple's '5' event on 12th september

^^ I will be at the Apple Store Sept 21 for sure! I never miss a chance to check out Apple's news products.

Re: Apple's '5' event on 12th september

2 freaking weeks I have to wait to get my hands on the iPhone 5. Arrgh...

Re: Apple's '5' event on 12th september

Meanwhile, order the cases, and other accessories :D! That's what I'd do if I were you.

Re: Apple's '5' event on 12th september

we keep circling this debate every few months on this forum. No one is denying the superior quality of apple products... but quality to some is "quality of conformance" while to others it is "quality of performance". In Apple's case, it's the former - they're concerned with providing reliable products which meet the threshold of required functionality and features that is deemed necessary by its customers. Other manufacturers also realize Apple's stronghold in this area and consequently focus on providing new functions, tailorability etc.

A case in point is the missing NFC capability in the iPhone5. I don't think it's going to hurt Apple all that much. They must have done their research and figured out that the functionality still is too novel for the mass-market and Apple's market share won't hurt by not offering this... on the other hand, they were already playing catch-up with other manufacturers in the areas of meeting people's bandwidth expectations (LTE etc.) and screen sizes... and it was imperative for them to meet these expectations and they did.

Apple isn't necessarily selling more simply because it has a better product... it's also due to the charismatic marketing efforts of Steve Jobs and their first-mover advantage in this marketplace... both these factors may be subject to erosion in the upcoming years - Let's see.
