Samsung patent war that will seemingly never end has taken another turn today, as Apple is asking the court to add newer Samsung Galaxy phones, including the Galaxy S III, Verizon Galaxy S III, Galaxy Note and Galaxy Note 10.1 to its complaint against the Galaxy Nexus and other related devices. Hit the source link to read over the complaint for yourself, but if you thought updated software and designs would keep these newer devices out of the fight – you were wrong. Just to keep things straight, this is a separate case from the one that ended exactly a week ago with a decision in Apple’s favor to the tune of more than $1 billion in damages.

I think this is going to backfire on Apple bigtime. Because consumers outside the US will be able to buy these models -- and there is nothing Americans resent more than being told they can't buy something. And not for any reason like, it's unhealthy or dangerous or polluting, but only because Apple wants to control the entire market.

Or maybe they're just positioning themselves to cut a licensing deal with Samsung so that they get a piece of the action off of every Samsung smartphone sold in the US.

^ Exactly. Even if the iPhone 5 plays catch up (which I believe it will), it's sales will be far higher than Samsung. It will be a few years before consumers realize that there are phones out there superior to the iPhone. Of course by then millions of people will be plugged into Apple's ecosystem so it might be too late, or too much of a hassle, to switch.

Still, this is very petty of them. It's also ironic since Jobs claimed in Revenge of the Nerds that Apple is "shameless about stealing ideas", and that "good artists copy, great artists steal", in reference to Apple stealing the GUI from Xerox.

the annoying thing for me personally is, the patent wars are over ridiculous things like rounded corners. finger swiping. and all the technologists (nerds) whose sweat and blood has gone into fitting the processing power that would have taken up a whole room 20 yrs ago into the palm of ones hand.. doesnt even figure. i wanna go back in time and become a patent lawyer or a candy thief.

Ridiculous move by Apple. If iphone 5 does not exceed expectations, Apple will be screwed in rest of the world... not in america because samsung has lost the case there unfortunately.
