CNN) – A telethon for tsunami victims on Saudi state-run television has raised more than $77 million, and the Saudi-based Islamic Development Bank pledged an additional $500 million for affected countries.
To all those sick puppies who need proof of others charity.
So john, this beats the US aid what does that mean in your limited logic reasoning?
Unfortunately it is the media that is playing is. In NYtimes today Peter Bergen had an op-ed criticizing Arabs and muslims. I am sure you know who peter bergen is.
Now if a poor Christian/Hindu/Buddist area was equally devastated, what would the response from the Islamic world be? Yawn.
Complete double standards.
This stinks of "prove to us you love us", and it is a pile of crap.
There is no war on Islam. Americans responded to Somalia, and Bosnia, and other areas where Muslims were starving or being slaughtered, and never got a word of thanks. Shoot, Americans were the biggest suppliers of aid to Afghanistan, even under the Taliban. Americans give more than 25% of all of the assistance worldwide, and now there is an expectation that we will always be there.
Will our giving change a single Muslim mind? Maybe, but a few weeks from now we will be back to the "What have you done for me lately", and "America is the Great Satan". Never mind the conspiracy theorist who find ways to blame the US for tectonic plate shifts.
No, radical Islam will concoct some wild rational that completely discounts the compassion evident in the US efforts. Our enemies will not change one bit. Thankfully some common people may be saved, some children will be fed, and some villages rebuilt. That will not make a bit of difference to our enemies...
Natural disaters occur and thankfully the worlds nations muster up some money and relief. The US creates disasters of it's own and lavishes much more money doing so, 200 billion in Iraq and counting.

IDB to Send Relief Missions to Tsunami-Hit Countries
Habib Shaikh, Arab News
JEDDAH, 8 January 2005 — The Islamic Development Bank (IDB) is to send missions to Indonesia, the Maldives and Sri Lanka to provide relief assistance to the victims of the tsunami disaster.
B.S, just because your media fails to report how much these efforts were appreciated does not mean that they were not.
and just like radicals among muslims will always find a reason to hate america, ..the radicals in america will find a reason to hate Ay-rabs or moozlims.
Hmmm there was a great earthquake in Bam iran at same time last year 1 billion dollars/pounds was to be donated by world community to date only 70 million has been given to the victims.
Before the self rightous west pats itself on the back all these billions promised lets see how much of it will be delivered with one hand and taken back with other!
Not to deny the US efforts, they have helped out a lot in this disaster. In reality there is a big difference between pledging and actually forking over the cash. It'll be interesting to see how many countries actually pay up their pledges. I hope all of them do because that part of the world is in dire need of financial assistance.
