who built this chaar minar? and there are some other dishes displayed in pic with Hyderabadi Biryani. Whats their name? I think double ka meetha is more popular than Hyderabi Biryani outside Hyderabad.

Chaminar was build by Mohammed Quli Qutb Shah in the year 1591 (around 422 year ago), was the fifth sultan of the Qutb Shahi dynasty of Golkonda
he was a poet too. he was the first poet to have “Deewan” . his deewan’s name is **Kulliyat-e-Quli Qutub Shah

The other things with biryani in that pic are some curries, and double ka meetha is one of the favorite desserts before, but nowadays it is no more popular. unlike biryani…which is a signture dish of the city and still as popular as it was earlier.

I kinda remember Fatima Suraya Bajya referring to Quli Qutub Shah. Her parents also belonged to Hyderabad.

There are many big names in her family. Her brother Anwar Maqsood is also a well known writer and he wrote lyrics of title song Indian movie ‘Zinda’. Anwar Maqsood’s son is member of famous pop group ‘Strings’ which is famous beyond borders. Their sister Zehra nigah is famous poet of Pakistan and last but not the least Zubaida aapa (famous for her cooking and totkas) is also their sister.
