APDM warns Asif of exposing his ‘corruption’

By Bakhtawar Mian
ISLAMABAD, June 18: The All Parties Democratic Movement has warned PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari of exposing what it called his corruption of billions of rupees if he failed to restore judiciary to its pre-emergency status.

The warning came as APDM leaders met here on Wednesday on the first day of a two-day meeting at the residence of Jamaat-i-Islami leader Mian Aslam.

They called for restoration of judiciary, release of the missing people, release of Dr Qadeer Khan, inquiry into the May 12 incident in Karachi, killing of Nawab Akbar Bugti and restoration of the Constitution to its pre-Oct 12, 1999, position.

More than 100 leaders of component parties attended the meeting.

APDM convener Mehmmod Khan Achakzai said that the country was in the grip of several crises and appealed to the nation to unite to steer the country out of this grave situation. He said there was a consensus in the APDM on a four-point agenda: an end to army interference in politics, restoration of the Constitution, polls under an independent election commission and restoration of judiciary.

Mr Achakzai criticised US presence in the country and sought an end to military operation in Fata and Balochistan.

Jamat-i-Islami chief Qazi Hussain Ahmad said the army should play its role in accordance with the Constitution.

He said Pakistan was an ideological state and if the ideology was properly adhered to, there would be provincial autonomy, a free judiciary and rights of minorities would be ensured.

He demanded restoration of the Constitution to its pre-Oct 12, 1999, position, regretting that the parliamentary system had been turned into a presidential form of government.

The Jamaat chief said the United States had become a world terrorist and it considered interference in other countries’ affairs as its right. He said the American adventurism had endangered peace and criticised the government for what he called playing into the hands of the US.

He demanded provincial rights and royalty on gas and electricity, adding that there should be a fair distribution of water among provinces. He said lack of justice and equality had endangered the security of the country. He said the Nov 3 PCO should be declared illegal through an executive order.

Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf chief Imran Khan said the prevailing situation had proved that the election boycott was a correct decision. Justifying the boycott, he said it was done in accordance with a resolution passed by the Pakistan Bar Council.

He said prevailing crisis could have been averted if Justice Iftikhar Mohmmad Chaudhary was reinstated and President Pervez Musharaf impeached. He said Mr Nawaz Sharif and Ms Benazir Bhutto came to Pakistan only because of lawyers’ movement, but the political leadership had badly disappointed the nation.

He praised the long march of lawyers and said the movement for restoration of judiciary was a movement of every Pakistani. He said the constitutional package presented by the PPP was just a drama.

He also criticised the budget, saying it was no different from the budget of Shaukat Aziz.

He said a new GHQ was being built in Islamabad at a cost of Rs900 billion, but the current parliament was silent on such an important issue.

So the APniDuM leaders are okay with corruption in billions by Zardari if he restored the judiciary, what crackheads! These guys are criminals in a way too as they are “hiding” the corruption and blackmailing the criminal.

who cares.. :chai: their ADVERTISING SLOGAN is too attractive.

Re: APDM blackmails Zardari

Restoration of the judiciary means a crackdown on zardari, which is why hes not very keen on bringing back the deposed judiciary. There will be no NRO if the CJ is brought back, thats one of the first things he will go after for sure.

Re: APDM blackmails Zardari

^ Going by that logic, do you feel that nawaz sharif will be spared this crackdown because of his support of the legal community? If he will be spared just because he supported the legal communicty, then it will seriously question the integrity of the judicial branch, no?

Nawaz Sharif wasnt brought back because of the NRO, please do some more reading before posting silly irrelevant questions. But if the NRO did apply to him, sure he should be prosecuted just like Jirdari.

Re: APDM blackmails Zardari

^ Since you admit he has a criminal background and feel certain that he will be prosecuted, do you feel the legal communities "struggle" is tainted, as they are relying for yet another thug for help and probably won't prosecute him for any of his misdeeds in the future?

Re: APDM blackmails Zardari

Please dont ask me dumb questions, who gets prosecuted for the same crime twice... Hes already received a conviction.... Its Zardari we are talking about, and he wasnt convicted, infact he was pardoned by Musharraf, so please direct your meaningless questions to the presidency. I am sure the great president with nothing to do anymore would love to answer them.

^ Since you have now admitted that Mr. sharif is infact a convicted felon, a fraud and bald (and that all of this is a known fact), why do you feel the legal community doesn't denounce him?

Re: APDM blackmails Zardari

Go ask the legal community, and since you are so fond of asking stupid questions (which have nothing to do with the topic), please ask the presidency why they didn't denounce Zardari or reward him with the NRO.

Re: APDM blackmails Zardari

lol.

What logic? You are using counter-logic. Zardari is opposing judiciary restoration because judiciary might strike down the NRO and as far as I know NRO pardons crime till the day Nawaz Sheereef tried to "kill" Musharraf (exclusive). You are trying to suggest that judiciary will be part of "you scratch my back I'll scratch yours" but Zardari opposition to judiciary has no correlation with that.

Re: APDM blackmails Zardari

LOL at people who think that judiciary once "restored" will become corruption free and honest under ifti. :D

Are you LOLing at Zardari? :aq:

Re: APDM blackmails Zardari

We should have an independent judiciary that can do real justice.

Hang Zardari for Murtuza and Benazir's murder. Hang him for a week at Liaqat Bagh.
Put Nawaz Sharief in Jail for the rest of the life where he should work as blacksmith.
Hang RETIRED Musharraf for 1 month at Army House for Kargil, Refrendum joke, Wana operation, Jamae Hafsa and Benazir's murder (as partner in crime).
Hang Altaf Hussein for 1 year at Jinnah Ground Azizabad Karahi for 20000+ murders and unrecoverable damage to people of Karachi. Let the vulchurs dine at his body.
