Didn’t you know this before? I am surprised. The whole story behind Apollo missions is very interesting. Americans felt more motivated after the Russians launched Sputnik in 1957. They weren’t too happy about losing the spotlight. I wonder if the funding for Apollo mission would have ever been approved had it not been for Russians launching the first satellite ever.

I knew the rivalry part, but I did not know that (because nuclear war heads are attached to a rocket) it had a weapon threat angle to that. What american were implying in a subtle way that hey dude USSR, if we can target moon from so fa away, we can definitely target Kremlin without any issue.
