Re: Anyone use Linux?

Most people I know do; it's just these noobs who stick to Windows. In Academia everything is based around UNIX

Re: Anyone use Linux?

Ubuntu all the way... server or desktop
is that all you wanted to know?
in case u r wondering, my primary pc (laptop) is still windows

Re: Anyone use Linux?

that way you need suse for your laptop as i do.

I was able to configure wireless card with suse and now
life is all good my friend

Re: Anyone use Linux?

Both Bindows and Linox but Bindows the most.. Long live Bindows.

Re: Anyone use Linux?

Is this a poll or do u have a question?

Re: Anyone use Linux?

Uhmmm i want to know what linux distribution is best all over for personal use...nothing like running servers but like ease of use...I installed ubuntu..it was fine but it doesn't let me install linux games.
I dont want to download something that will take me ages...free CD would be excellent

Re: Anyone use Linux?

suse has an interface called yast which is excellent to install software packages
Redhad use rpm which easy to use too

But I can tell about games, not a game person my self.

Re: Anyone use Linux?

Actually none.

LFS is the real idea.

Re: Anyone use Linux?

You may try Debian and/or Gentoo. Both are comparatively better than others.

Linux is fine, my development server is permanently based on FreeBSD though.

i686 amd64
**Gentoo 2006.1 LiveDVD **
(up to 1.1 Gigabytes depending on arch - only available via BitTorrent)
i686 amd64

Re: Anyone use Linux?

Get the one with as much as u could possible need. Live CD would let you run the whole OS off of the CD without installing so you could play around with it and see if you like it. Hence go with the 1.1 gb one. Then if you like it you could always install it.

You can try other distros like this as well. I've heard that SUSE is pretty nifty as well. Check it out.

Re: Anyone use Linux?

my question was which link should i use to download if i wanted to get gentoo for my dell pentium 3...i saw that suse needed 5 cds and that takes a long time to download

Re: Anyone use Linux?

get Fedora Core 6.. You have the choice of either CD or DVD, you will need one DVD only.
