Anyone travelled recently from JFK to LHE through PIA?

Anyone? How was the experience? Me and my husband are leaning towards it since 1. Its cheap and 2. No layovers.

Also if i take a flight, say from Austin, TX to JFK to LHE, will i be able to check in my baggage (both bags) for final destination i.e. LHE, directly from Austin?

Re: Anyone travelled recently from JFK to LHE through PIA?

yes, if your airline has **'interline baggage agreement' **with the airline that you will connect in JFK. i don't think Lahore is served by any direct flight from JFK...in that case, you have to take your bags out at entry point in Pakistan and after the customs and immigration you'll have to recheck your luggage with the connection airline.

Re: Anyone travelled recently from JFK to LHE through PIA?

Great. I am planning to travel via delta and although they have baggage agreement, i will probably be buying separate tickets, i.e. from Austin to JFK and then JFK to LHE, i hope Delta still book my baggage directly from Austin.
Also to anyone who traveled through PIA from US to pak, how was the experience?

I flew via PIA from JFK to LHE a couple years ago. Huge mistake! :bummer:
Yes, the perks of the price being cheaper and it being a direct flight are nice… but don’t even come close to making up for the crappy flight and service.
The plane was in horrible condition & the staff was as far from professional as possible.

As far as luggage, make sure you’re prepared to pay the baggage fee for Delta, since they don’t have a free baggage allowance… and their weight allowance is different, as well.
And make sure you confirm with Delta ahead of time about checking your baggage, other wise you’ll have to check it in again :bummer:

Re: Anyone travelled recently from JFK to LHE through PIA?

I traveled via Luftansa from JFK TO LHE a while ago . I almost always travel alone and I am not very demanding when it comes to airline as long as they give me clean seat and ya not very close to bathroom I am happy , Luftansa is a very nice airline very comfortable , I would recommend every one well you can't do any thing if on your next seat there is a women with 3 kids all under 5 crying and shouting for 8 hours , Ohh and they were wearing pempers too, honestly I am not that scary but she felt I would harm her other kids so instead of going to the LU she changed the FU***G nappies on one of them folding trays people normally use for supper . can't really do any thing about that now can we ?

^:rotfl:
They kept you entertained for 8 hrs :stuck_out_tongue:

Re: Anyone travelled recently from JFK to LHE through PIA?

Is PIA actually cheaper though? Whenever I've travelled to pak the cost of tickets between PIA and for example Emirates is only around £50-£60 at the most. I go with PIA because they fly direct and they give you a slightly increased lugagge allowance (every kilo counts when you travel to pak :p)

Service on the plane and standards of meals etc don't really matter to me. It is what it is kinda thing.

Re: Anyone travelled recently from JFK to LHE through PIA?

Oh PIA is cheaper brtchick. It cost us 1680 for both of us, emirates right now is 1400 per person. We were also inclined towards it since the extra baggage cost comparatively less than rest if the airlines. We have booked the tickets already, i think we will be ok inshaAllah.

Re: Anyone travelled recently from JFK to LHE through PIA?

you will be just fine. my mom always travels PIA because its direct flight and she believes in giving to Pakistan whenevr she can! if its not high season, she usually gets couple of seats extra and sleeps through the flight (yep she considers the season while booking her ticket)! she really doesnt mind their food much because she doesnt eat much in flight but likes their snacks :D

I have travelled couple of times and honestly didnt care much since again I tend to sleep through the flight too.. Emirates was better in terms of hospitality so I am glad we chose that while traveling with the baby.. I had to bother them quite a few times and they were always very firendly.. I wont expect that on PIA!!

Re: Anyone travelled recently from JFK to LHE through PIA?

Although you have booked your flights already and it wont make a big difference but I have almost always traveled PIA from JFK to Lahore. Before having the kid it was mostly because of the comparatively low cost vs.other airlines and after the kid it was because of the less than 13 hour non stop flight. It has always been ok...it is not first class, but it is very bearable...I never care about the meals and the in flight entertainment and other stuff because I mostly either sleep or read so it is all ok.
Traveling with a 6 month old was also ok a few years ago.

The last we went to Pakistan (in Jan 2012) e went by Emirates and at that time their prices were a couple of hundred $$ lesser than PIA...we wanted to stay in Dubai on our way back so it worked perfectly.Emirates was having some deal at that time.Maybe you can check them for your next trip. They are definitely better than PIA,but PIA is not that horrible either.

Safe travels....:)

Re: Anyone travelled recently from JFK to LHE through PIA?

Thank you everyone!
Chips - Yeah I love Emirates but its so damn expensive right now! Eithad is also a good airline. It will be our first ever experience with PIA, i dont expect the same standard but considering the price we got, i think its a good deal.
GTG - Yeah since its just me and hubby right now, i dont think we would mind a few hiccups in hospitality or comfort, as long as they give us the food on time lol. yup we are typical desis :hypo:

Re: Anyone travelled recently from JFK to LHE through PIA?

1680 for 2 people from US to LHR on PIA? lol bhai are you sure? or are you the one who always needed to bribe to get through maths paper!

PIA from JFK to LHR is alwaysssssssssss closse to 1200 US dollar per person...i just checked PIA fares for April 2014 JFK to LHR and they were 1284 us dollars per person.....

intiha hai misinformation kee!!!

Re: Anyone travelled recently from JFK to LHE through PIA?

^she is most likely talking about one way tickets.

Re: Anyone travelled recently from JFK to LHE through PIA?

Pheonixdesi - no misinformation here, its misunderstanding on your part. I am talking about one way tickets.

Re: Anyone travelled recently from JFK to LHE through PIA?

So far whenever I have traveled to Pakistan, it's been with PIA. The main reasons? Their weight allowance and the direct flight. Honestly when I am spending so much money I want to make every minute count and don't really want to waste that time in lay overs. There is nothing to write home about. Just don't have high expectations and you will be fine. Also, they usually move the families with kids to the tail end of the seats. So if you don't want that then try and book your seats earlier.
On the other hand, one of the best flight experience I had was on PIA but so was the worst.
