I thought that was a really excellent drama. I can’t find it on the net anywhere though, and I have no idea who was in it. Only that it was seriously good.
Was it about a female political prisoner?

I think it had uzma gilani in the lead role or something...
It took place in a women's jail, yes, but I don't think the main character or characters were political prisoners. Rather most of them were there because of the hudood ordinances which made it a jailable offense if a woman wouldn't go back to her husband's home, etc. All sorts of stories about how women came to be there -- poverty, falling in love with the wrong person, wanting to be out of an abusive situation or not wanting to marry the person their parents had chosen for them, etc..
But now that I think of it, maybe the main character was an upper class woman who got arrested during a protest of some sort.

i remember the title and the opening credits but don't remember anything about the plot....the main actress was called Anila something.

Neele haath was one of the best dramas. Madiha gohaur played the lead role of an activist (i think a women activist) who goes to jail due to her doing strikes etc which govt doesnot approve and she goes to jail for that. There in jail she meets different women with different stories. Each and every story was fantastic and very very well acted.
the star cast was all big and known actors and they kept the standards (khayam sarhadi, basit khan, bushra ansari, roni baho, tani begum, saba pervaiz, uzma gillani, irsa ghazal along with her real actress mother ismat tahira, bindiya, arifa saddiqui etc etc...it was a serious drama and fariha jabeen's little comic dialogues added the right fun to it. i am blessed to have this drama on dvd and i will upload it very very soon since i have just checked that no one has uploaded it on youtube or any other site
