anyone living in Canada?

I am trying to help out a friend who got her immigration done last year to Canada, she stayed there for 3 months but then went back cuz she could not find a job in a limited time.she is a simple graduate but with work experience in citibank and paktel(cellular company),she was working at managerial posts in both the offices.she has done some short courses from LUMS and a few othercourses in administration from some other private place in Lahore.I thought maybe someone in Canada can suggest as to what would be the best place for her to look up for jobs there, any kind of suggestion would be a great help.

she gotta stay there if she intends to LIVE there :halo:

going to canada for the sole purpose of finding a quick high profile job aint such a good plan - maybe if one sticks to it and starts from a sumwhat lower profile job one could progress steadily

and with that other option always open ( I mean returning back home after a futile job search ) - it aint gonna do no good , with the slightest of problem and a little tough time your first reaction is to return back - if it was so , why invest so much time and money in re-locating …

DECIDE you wanna stay - you wanna leave …

The first thing is to not get demotivated. Sabar ka phal meetha hota haiy. Her best bet would be to spend the first year networking, building contacts and establishing a good credit history.

Some good advice in this thread already, Masha'Allah.

er if you don't mind my asking, which city did she move to? Did she try contacting the local immigration center at her city? i ask this because i know someone who moved here recently from Lahore, brand new to the country - Masha'Allah she is receiving a fair bit of help from her local immigration center. Depending upon which city she is in, it will be called by different names (i think in Halifax, for example, it's referred to as the Metropolitan Immigrant Settlement Association). In larger cities it is usually the Immigrant Aid Association or something similar to that. Anyways they offer quite a bit of assistance (most of it for free) - particularly in terms of resume polishing, gaining internship experience, volunteering, building contacts and networking etc.

i'm sorry i honestly wish i could offer more concrete help than this, but please do ask her whether she checked out the above organization in her city. And, if possible, keep us updated on how it goes for her.

thank you everyone for the reply!
she is not the type who would run back because she cannot manage hard work, actually she has two kids and both of them study at very good schools in lahore, specially her son is in Aitchison and leaving that was a hard decision,so when things didi not look very appealing she just jumped back for her kids.
Anyway, she will be going to Toronto next month and if anyone of u can tell me as to where should she try to look up i will be very greatful.she even has to look for a place to rent out so any kind of help as to which places are safe to live in etc would mean a lot to her.
Thankyou everyone..

The best thing for her to do is to look at job sites like monster.ca and hotjobs.com. They would give her some idea to where she stands in the job market and what kind of skills are required to get an edge over the competition in an already saturated Toronto job market.

Things are still the same as they three years ago i.e. not very appealing ..survival is the name of the game. She should come here with a mind set that she won’t get a job for at least first six months. Western education and Canadian experience is the key to get your foot in the door
For a rental place ..she can contact me when she is here and I can show her a couple of independent rooms/ basements that she can consider.

ciao
