Anyone had channa daal at weddings?

After reading the post on kormas at weddings I realised that at the last wedding I was at there was a lovely channa daal. Not sure if daal is the norm at weddings but if it is does anyone know of a recipe for it?

I’ve found a channa daal recipe from Rahat with loads of masala-I’ve made it and it doesn’t taste like the lovely one at the wedding.

Last question-for those of you who cook meat and daal mixed dishes does the dish taste more of meat than lentils? I love daal, other half loves meat and I’ve seen a few recipes I’d like to give a bash in the slow cooker.

Re: Anyone had channa daal at weddings?

I have never made chana daal without meat. It turns out great and NO, meat's taste doesn't take over the daal's flavour at all.

I have had chana daal gosht at few mehndi/mayoun functions at weddings though.

Re: Anyone had channa daal at weddings?

**daal is never served at shaadis...kia Abdulla deevaane kii shaadii par gaii thiiN? hahaha

vaise, honestly...i was flying First Class from Hong Kong to Delhi on United Airlines and guess what? i was served with khichRii...lol...imagine khichRii at 37, 000 feet...luckily there were 5 main course entries on the menu so i chose chicken :)**

Yes daal is served on Shaadis

Shami Kabaabs are made from Channa Daal and Meat!

May be what you ate was dhegi haleem as Lahori serve dhegi Haleem on mehndi with plain boiled white chawal and naan.

Thanks guys.

The dish was served at a Kashmiri friends wedding-they had a chicken main course and daal too, so know it's not haleem.

@ Khalil KhaaN FaaKhta-you should try first class on Turkish Airlines. They serve healthy food only on their Istanbul to Karachi route.

Re: Anyone had channa daal at weddings?

^ They do serve channas and puri with halwa on mehndis. Its a new menu trend for mehndis in pak and very cost effective as well. Had the chance to attend three mehndis with channas, halwa and puri as main course.

^ really? That means the UK isn't behind Pakistan as it usually is!
