So I’ve always wanted to try red/auburn hair but never had the guts..
Any suggestions for specific brands + shades would be appreciated

I had a baaaaaaad experience going red. It was supposed to be reddish-brown, an attractive auburn shade, instead the salon did bright red highlights :no:
I couldn’t live with the colour and paid for a brown tinted rinse a week later to get rid of the red.

so u want it all red or just highlights? I have got red highlights several times but seriously they don't stay for long. now i'm more into violets. i tried to die my whole head purple a few times but it doesn't get the desired shade coz they r dark black and i'm not ready to bleach. however they look pretty under sun. If u want bright colour bleach them first otherwise u'll just get a tint which will fade quickly.
u can try home colouring kits first. go to sally stores if u have any. their dyes are better than departmental store dyes.

I did a reddish color recently...with the more purple tones in it. I love it so much!
The ONLY issue I have with it is that it lasts for a very brief amount of time...then its all over. You have to keep toning it to maintain that color otherwise it fades into a brown.
I think in a few weeks I will probably go light brown because the red is gorgeous but washes out too quick.

^Ugh! My pillowcases all stained red from the colour dye in that first week, even after I washed my hair a few times.

I wish I had the guts to dye my hair. I'm afraid I'll go bald if I do.
But I reaaaaalllyyyyyyy want to try a new color. Sigh. =(

it shouldn't happen if its permanent. when i dyed them purple with home dye my towels used to get colour every time i shampooed but it never happened once they were dry. however with salon dying it never happened wet or dry. So may be the departmental store dies are not that long lasting. but seriously i can't get over purple. i will never go back to any other colour now either black or purple. period. Many ppl recommended Schwarzkopf for fun colours over Lo'real.

Personally, I have never dyed my hair, I prefer it dark brown/nearly black. >.<

Deeba… try non-perma hair dye. L’Oreal has these upto 28 wash ones in various colours.
