Anyone for a Gender Jihad?

Re: Anyone for a Gender Jihad?

Don't pop the cork just yet, this conference is mainly aimed at Muslim women in Europe. I am sure most of them are a lot better off than their Eastern counterparts. Also, exactly how much clout will a few no name delegates at a no name conference have?

It would be great if this conference gets major media coverage, atleast that way we can crush some stereotypes and alienate culture from religion. Spreading awareness is a first step, but don't be fooling yourself into thinking that this conference is of any use to illiterate women kidnapped in Balakot.

Re: Anyone for a Gender Jihad?

And what I meant is that the person she was responded to said don’t trust Western feminists. In this, I would agree…they may not all be the same but then…why play to them at all?

Read any critique of Islamic feminism by western feminists and you’ll see why some western feminists are just intrinsically hostile to us…I don’t see how this is excusing bad “muslim” behavior…

Re: Anyone for a Gender Jihad?

Why do you group all feminism into one pot? There are lots of various feminist ideas out there. Being a feminist doesn't mean you subscribe to all the views out there.

Lets stick to what this conference is about, rather than bring in other forms of feminism that were not endorsed by this conference. No one is talking about running around waving your bra in the air.

Me? I’m not…

assalamo alaikum

Shaykh 'Abdal Hakim Murad in his contentions number 9:

Feminism has one virtue: it shows that the West is still capable of certainty.

Feminism targeting the cultural prejudices against women is ok I believe, as that kind of feminism, when done in the best of Islamic Spiritual Practice (IHsan) would be nothing but fitrah.

Shaykh 'Abdal Hakim Murad in his contentions number 1:

The Tawaf is about Abraham, the Sa‘y is about Hagar. Only in Islam is a woman the initiator of a form of worship.

The femininity of the crescent, the masculinity of the cross. (Max Ernst, Men shall know nothing of this.)

Islam is the religion of women because Madina had no place for Oedipus.

Women are native to Paradise: is this not the most underestimated disclosure of the Book?

So, Islam is a faith of feminism. But is this the same feminism as that being done (or should I say copied) by feminists in Pakistan?

Re: Anyone for a Gender Jihad?

unfortunately some women in the third world are misleaded by the image coming from the west via movies and think that feminism is about smoking, wearing half naked style clothes and sexual freedom ( ie before marriage)

Re: Anyone for a Gender Jihad?

Re: Anyone for a Gender Jihad?

Are you eaquating the fight for women’s rights to drug dealing? Very nice!

Re: Anyone for a Gender Jihad?

Nope got no problems about women calling for their rights its a must, but western feminists meddling in muslim affairs = nothing but bad news!

Re: Anyone for a Gender Jihad?

If you wish to talk about feminism then read up on it. As well, to get a better picture of the western feminism movement, read up on what life was like for women in various western civilizations/countries/cultures prior to feminism's entry in history. You'll see that there is much correlation with Islam.
