What can we do the night before, in order to wake up for sehri as late as possible? ![]()
Re: Any tips for preparing sehri the night before?
ahh ... you are thinking like me :D
good thread idea.
for tonite, I'm thinking I'll roll out the paratha before bed ... cover with wax paper and stick in fridge.
whip the omelet mix ... cover and store in fridge ...
Re: Any tips for preparing sehri the night before?
**when i used to live alone, i always set the table...like, put cereal boxes, tea cup, water in the kettle, tea bags in a cup and sugar pot...why? because when we wake up that early in the morning we aren't that alert and it takes twice as much time to do all that and also if we are late getting up, say 5-10 min before end of seHrii, we do NOT have to waste valuable time scrambling for those items. it always worked for me...
...i lerned it from my bhabhi...she always sets the table b4 going to bed...but now, i do this chore to hel;p her out! :)**

I was thinking about getting the eggs all whipped and ready to go too. Might get the bread out. Can we leave butter out over night?
Hubby is not a big eater in the mornings, but I'll force down some scrambled eggs on toast with juice or something.

lol, I just finished rolling out my parathas and putting them in the fridge. I also cook it a little bit on the tawa, it still remains kacha pakka though. Can I really just roll it and cover with wax paper..it won't become too stiff?
Re: Any tips for preparing sehri the night before?
I just make sure the aata has been gundo-ed, if I have to fry up an omelette, I chop the onions, etc and keep in a container, if we're having shaami kababs, I fry the kababs so I just have to heat them in the toaster oven. I just have to make 4-5 rotis in the morning for hubby and I so it's not a big deal.

yea ... butter at room temp keeps perfectly fine. Infact, a lot of non-desi folks never place butter in fridge.
I do though ... :D ... but having inadvertently left it out on many occasions ... its been fine.
another thing i do when in a huge hurry ... is stick the butter in the microwave for literally 3-5 secs ...... works great.

nope it doesn't. Just cover it well. I use wax paper in between the paratha. place the paraths onto a plate and place/wrap the whole thing into a plastic bag (grocery bag) and put that into fridge.
I like your idea too though. I used to do that during my schooling years for rotis and store the half pakki rotis in the freezer ... works like a charm! :D
Re: Any tips for preparing sehri the night before?
Okay, eggs whipped!
Glasses filled with water and covered with plastic. Set with plates.
Butter out. Bread out and waiting to be toasted.
Frying pan and cheese grater in place.
Juices and yogurt awaiting consumption in the fridge.

Turn off the alarm and go back to sleep. Only you may not wake up until Sehri time has lapsed. :D
Re: Any tips for preparing sehri the night before?
I was thinking the same thing last night…![]()
Although I did not do anything last night but I am thinking I will make the rotis tonight and wrap them in cling wrap and just heat them with whatever salan is there in the morning.
Somehow I felt that the rotis took longer to cook at 3:30 am than they usually do…![]()
Re: Any tips for preparing sehri the night before?
Our maid lays the table and cuts-up onions/tomatoes (if she's making eggs) or potato's.. she also makes the basic 'lassi' mixture by adding Splenda and milk and then all she does is adds ice and blends it well. We don't have dinner so she has plenty of time after Iftar to prepare for Suhur.
Re: Any tips for preparing sehri the night before?
I'm feeling so uninspired now. Can't figure what to have ready for the morning.
Re: Any tips for preparing sehri the night before?
Great minds think alike hey people!
I was also thinking the other day what I can do to make my life a tad bit easier at sehri, I did have thethought that I could make stuffed parathas and half cook and cover and leave in the kitchen and finish cooking them off at . I like the table setting idea too, the mixing the omlette one is great I did it last year and it is such a relief to come to the kitchen and half the things are already done.
Re: Any tips for preparing sehri the night before?
Well I think Sehri is at like 2:45am here and Maghrib will be at 9pm. Not sure if we will even go to sleep because it would just be a quick nap anyway. I anticipate that by the time we have had something to eat and prayed, we will be too knackered to think about preparing for Sehri.
