Any SAP guys here ?

or am I the only one ?

count me also..

SAP Certified: Business Integration

SAP synonym is still 100+k??

Achcha ab kaam ki baat...

Does anyone know of a SAP contract opening in the US (in SD/ABAP). I am desperately seeking the same.

Changez, I know of only hourly rates and that averages 80 bucks/hr.

I dont know much about it, but I worked at a computer lab at the business college where everyone was using it all the time. From what I had heard from a professor, who is considered a guru in SAP, this thing isnt going to last for long.

Sorry Spocky, your guru Professor does not seem to be much of a guru after all. Anyone who knows anything about ERPs will tell you that ERP packages are here to stay..most top businesses have invested too much in ERP packages to let it go....and SAP is the market leader of the pack that includes PeopleSoft(+JD Edwards), Oracle Apps etc.

BTW, ERP stands for Enterprise Resource Planning.

SAP...a leader in ERP....hmmmm

There is intense competition nowadays in ERP pkgs especially peoplesoft, JD Edwards and Oracle Apps.

Wasn't peoplesoft the leader in HRMS implementations.

SAP from what I can remember was a leader back in the early days(early 90's) when you had to go to Germany for training. Back then you could get away with 150 to 200 per hour but now even 80/hr is a stretch. When things got tough for the US mkt SAP started training classes in North America.

So by all means SAP is one of the competitors in the ERP mkt but its definately not the leader.

Some1, nothing is here to stay, especially if you consider recent trend in the programming languages environments. You better learn some other stuff, and try to pace yourself in such a way that when a new language comes up, you can master it after going through its syntax. Once a new trend in programming arrives, they will have to completely revamp the existing language structures. Dont worry, when you get laid off, I will hire you :)

btw, I would say $80/hour is not true anymore for SAP equipped professionals, because of their numbers now, I know a really good friend of mine who got hired at $60/hour and is writing his companys manual, and hes the highest paying SAP professional in the company.

zman, do you even have any knowledge about ERP and the ERP market (sorry didn’t mean to be rude). Read below to get it from the horse’s mouth :

SAP: The sultan of software

Forget PeopleSoft and Oracle. SAP is still on top. But that’s already priced in to the stock.
June 20, 2003: 12:09 PM EDT
By Paul R. La Monica, CNN/Money Senior Writer

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - The Oracle-PeopleSoft-J.D. Edwards melodrama, now spooling out on Wall Street, is shaking up the business software sector.

There is intense debate about whether PeopleSoft should sell out to Oracle or go ahead with its plans to buy J.D. Edwards (JDE: Research, Estimates).

But one outcome of this software soap opera seems certain: The clear winner will be Germany’s SAP, the leader in applications software that helps corporations manage customers, suppliers and human resource functions, among other things.

Most analysts expect SAP to pick up business because it will be able to portray itself as the only major company in the market not in turmoil.

Oracle, after all has publicly said that it has no plans to continue selling PeopleSoft products. Meanwhile, SAP’s CEO Henning Kagermann said at a customer conference in Orlando earlier this week that SAP has no intention of participating in the consolidation craze. He maintained that SAP can continue to win market share without buying it.

Depends on where you live in the US .
I just saw an advt on Dice for a position in Ohio : rate 28 $ /hr. I would rather flip burgers.

some1, check your pm.

The last time I got an email from a potential employer asking if I would consider an SAP architecture consulting position with them - they were offering in the range of $100K - $125K contingent on the interview & negotiation. It was for a year long contract.

Never went for that interview cuz I was gainfully employed.

Oh... and this was CDN $ translating to about $95Kish U.S.D.

Some1, please dont be condesending, I am merely expressing my views based on my experince. Although currently in the .NET env, I have been formally trained in peoplesoft, vantive and just recently was involved in writing an app interfacing with Oracle ERP - so please learn something from these discussions and get rid of that chip on your shoulders.
