I've never touched a Pokemon game, except for a couple of minutes of Pokemon Snap on the N64 many many years ago.

Goldensun > Breathoffire anyday
Re: Any RPG fans?
If anybody hasn't played Diablo series then I highly recommend it. Also Fallout 1 and Fallout 2. These games are amazing. Diablo is probably the best ever RPG IMO.
Re: Any RPG fans?
Resident Evil 3
Re: Any RPG fans?
mmmmm what is it then ?

I played D2 to death. But IMO those sorts of games are 'hack and slash' RPGs.. usually with poor storylines too.
Baldur's Gate is supposed to be great but I tried to get into it twice and just wasn't feeling it. Neverwinter Nights was okay... better than Dungeon Siege which was one of the most linear hack/slash types I've played (still kinda fun though :/). Tried to play NWN2 soon after release but it was so bug riddled I didn't want to go near it again.

Resident Evil is survival horror. Survival horror is more of an action game than an RPG.
I want to try the RPG genre now, I've been hooked to strategy for too long.
Any recommendations on the DS for a person starting out in RPGs? I read the reviews of Dragon Quest V, seems like a good game to begin with. Anyone played that?
I've played Dragon Quest VIII and I loved that. However that's on PS2 and not DS. For DS RPGs you could try some Final Fantasy games. If you have a DS model before DSi, then you can also play GBA games on it. I personally love Phantasy Star, which you could play as part of Phantasy Star Collection. On DS, I myself am trying to track down a copy of Chrono Trigger (locally before I go to ebay). Others that I'm looking forward to try are Soma Bringer and The World Ends with You.

Yup, try Chrono Trigger, it's a classic. If you don't like it, you probably won't be a fan of RPGs.
Esix's fav is Golden Sun (GBA), it's not that great imo but an easy game for a beginner.
FFVI (another GBA version)
Zelda: A Link to the Past (GBA again)
Re: Any RPG fans?
^yup nice suggestions both FS and stoppit
True! But then again D2’s fast paced gameplay doesn’t let you even consider the lack of story a drawback. Infact I only vaguely followed the storyline when I was playing. I was always hunting for the items. ![]()
I have yet to try Baldur’s Gate series. I couldn’t develop an interest in NWN1,2 even though these get pretty good ratings. They weren’t my type I suppose.![]()
Here I must mention another RPG on PS named “Alundra”. It has some of the most ridiculously hardest puzzles I’ve ever seen. I wonder if someone here has completed it.
