Re: any Quants here?
I got interviewed by a quant after graduating, smart guy... they needed someone to work on an AI project to assist on his analysis... From what he said, this field certainly isnt congested...
Re: any Quants here?
I certainly agree that this field isn't congested. Quants are probably the most analytical of the finance professionals. I have been trying to formally step into the field, but i guess I need more education.
Re: any Quants here?
I’m planning to pursue Mathematical Finance at the Masters level at some point in the next 5 years… however things might somewhat change by then. After talking to a few practitioners, the current pipeline of potential Quants is pretty full… this is one area where a first Masters degree can help land a very good job. That being said, we’re prolly about 15 years away from a saturation point.
It’s also interesting to note how this profession has evolved over the years. In the 60s’, all that was needed to work on a trading desk was good math skills and spontaneity in thinking. Today, with the proliferation of sophisticated technologies and mechanisms and practices for price discovery, hedging and risk management, more training and higher level of specialization are necessary.
Just look at the number of new programs in Financial Engineering and Mathematical Finance springing up everywhere – what’s more is that many of these are on a self-funded basis because the schools are certain of the return on investment that students will realize post graduation.
