Any pictures of this outfit please/??? or something similar!!
Re: Any pictures of this outfit????
Pretty. But it looks a bit awkward to me. I don't see desi tailors being able to make the fitting of the bust/shoulder area properly in this kind of style.
Re: Any pictures of this outfit????
WHen I first saw it I thought it was pleats but it looks like just gathered fabric...
pleated bust/shoulders are becoming more common now, based on the pictures I've seen...I think more experienced darzis cud do it...
Re: Any pictures of this outfit????
sara you will have no problem with a good darzi :) trust me....they can make ANYTHING these days ;)
Re: Any pictures of this outfit????
I'm talking about the fitting. See how it doesn't fit on her shoulder properly?
These darzi's aren't trained in pattern making or cutting, they just guess how it's made. So one will generally have problems where it doesn't fit quite right at the shoulder, or gaps at the bust.

Maybe its true for your local gali wala 'darzi', but speaking from exprience, a good professional master tailor (and they don't come cheap at all) in Pakistan can give you any cut and pattern as long as you yourself are absolutely clear with your instructions but more importantly your tailor sees you as his prized customer (yeah they tend to take random cutomers with a one or two outfits lightly). If you go to commercial hubs of cities likes Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, its really not hard to find a tailor who was once worked with a professional boutique.
Re: Any pictures of this outfit????
They still generally aren't trained in western patterning or cutting (these experienced darzi's who work for boutiques). And like you say the local ones really wouldn't have a clue.
Not to say they can't be found. My friend who now lives in Isb from Lahore, studied in the U.K. for a year and had the amazing shirt/blouses and a A-line coat that fitted her perfectly. She had them made from a men's tailor in Lahore though
But for desi outfits, I'm still to be impressed. Like someone who knows really what they are doing and not just approximating. I'm sure some people use tailors who have worked for designers though, then that's a different case.
Anyway, the very outfit in the picture being discussed doesn't have great fitting so eh.
Re: Any pictures of this outfit???
^^ really? ![]()
i dunno, recently a darzi from pak has moved to ireland and his western work is AMAZING like cut, and fitting wise as he has a variety of clients and when i went to him for the first time he showed me alot of his work…so unless sara is going to some Pind im sure she will find a good tailor in the major cities…
Re: Any pictures of this outfit????
Pakistani tailors are so good with their work! Totally unappriciated and under-paid if you ask me according to the standards here.
Re: Any pictures of this outfit???
Perhaps that’s why he’s managed to move to Ireland? One really good one I used a few years ago went to Dubai.
You’d think there would be no need for the “designer tailors” thread in the bazaar forum if they were 10 a penny though.
Re: Any pictures of this outfit????
I have faith in our darzis' abilities...
I got a dress made by a shop in Auriga, the guy only went by my explanations and a really grainy picture and a drawing...and he recreated it perfectly. (unfortunately the outfit sucked cz of hte fabric but that was my fault :()
its their damn work ethic that really sucks!!!!
Re: Any pictures of this outfit????
I still don't understand why the tailor of the girl in the picture didn't manage it. Coz everything else looks great with it except he clearly didn't know how to make the bodice properly.
And I'd just like to mention that I'm not attacking Pakistani tailors. They are amazing at some things but generally not so great at others. I remember a few years back there was a thread on finding Pakistani tailors that can make sari blouses properly. You'd think it's a pretty simple thing to do but it's not. It needs to be cut in the right way to fit the bust and torso and finish above the waist without being baggy, with darts in the right places.
In another thread, clothesmad mentioned a Isb designer that I've also been in contact with for some time. She has some pretty good designs, some with a western twist and you can see they are made properly but I'm pretty sure that given her training, she directs her tailors.
I'm sure that as long as they know how to properly make/cut the pattern for a certain type of outfit, it's all good.
