well, its really depends where you are. Here in Chicago, at University of Illinois, two option are available: applied and general. I opted for general psych. both had almost courses but applied requires research related courses too.that's if you want to pursue it for master's degree too. for general i had to complete around 30 + credit hours and as a full time student, i completed those in almost 3 yrs which also included completing the general requirements.
well, this is just an overview so you can check with your own college/uni abt how long the program as it really varies.
