It's definitely a strategic and a very smart move by Gates...he resigned at the right time. Now he's going to concentrate on improving the company's products and let Ballmer deal with the headaches while he consults him in the backend...
AOL is playing a catchup game with Microsoft, even though it might leap ahead of Microsoft in its latest acquisition....who knows...

But I don't think technology is the problem, the problem is distribution of resources and the system that is implemented to handle mankind's affairs, Democracy.
