Snow Flurries are very brief without any measurable accumulation...

on the METAR, Snow is reported as "SN" whereas Snow Flurries are reported as "SHSN".

Oh man, good question!

One of my college roommates was Greek, and did not speak English well. He asked, "What is a snow squall?". We had him convinced that a "squall" was a little bird that came out only in the snowstorms.

On Sunday night he came back from visiting his parents house. I had snowed a lot that weekend, so we asked him if had seen any "squalls". He had apparently been improving his English.

Azswhole! He carefully pronounced....
