I might have a small term project in either sydney or melbourne. How do they treat brown people over there?

I don't know about Sydney, but Melbourne is just like any other city filled with desis. It's quite multicultural. No one gives a second look whether you're desi or not. Even desis don't. There's that many.

Depends what suburb you are living in.

People these days are focussing most of their racism towards Lebs/Arabs than Desis and Wogs.

However after the Rape incident involving pakistani brothers, pakistanis dont have a very good reputation.

That was then fueled by the wonderful Sermon from the wonderful Sheikh who said the girl deserved to be raped.

Indians are looked upon with a much better eye than Pakistanis.

Thanks, good to know before i make my decision. Things dont seem that bad for pakistanis, not necessarily any worse than here in the states.

I live in Melbourne and number of Indian students have incresed by at least 80% in the last 2 years. Most of them are sikhs and it looks like they will soon take over half of Melbourne. I think reputation of desis isn't that good, i am not saying there is racism but desis in general have bad reputation mostly because of call centres. People don't like them due to the fact that lots of their jobs are going to India otherwise Melbourne is a GREAT place to live, racism is NOT common. Adelaide is the WORST followed by WA and Queensland.

Adelaide is the worst I agree due to the fact that pommies populate it and donot like brown people.

I wouldnt really say that bout WA, id say their problem is most with the abos and whites rather than desis.

Queenies are just hot headed idiots.
