Any Kashmiri speaking?

anyone who is Kashmiri by lineage, knows kashmiri language and has reecently been to Azad Kashmir?

Re: Any Kashmiri speaking?

None of those :(

Re: Any Kashmiri speaking?

Yes I would consider myself to be of the Kashmiri ethinic origin, speak a dialect of from Kashmir, and have recently been to AKJ.

Re: Any Kashmiri speaking?

yea Rafique Batt... yea hes been living there all his life ...... hes still there .. on the border ......kashmir side that is .........

Re: Any Kashmiri speaking?

Im kashmiri, and I speak koshur (kashmiri), but I'm wondering why a koshur speaker would want to go to Azad Kashmir??? Azad Kashmir has no native koshur speakers...only migrants from Kasheer which have settled in AJK, which number a couple of thousand only.

The speak pahari or some other form of punjabi in AJK, and not Kashmiri.

Re: Any Kashmiri speaking?

thanks, everyone.

abdelyuuki,
ajk aur koshur are like persian?
any books which you can recommend to learn Kashmiri language?
best,
Dushwari

Re: Any Kashmiri speaking?

As far as Im aware people in AJK speak Pahari/Potwari which is basically 99.9% punjabi, wheras people in the Kashmir valley speak Koshur which although originally has a sanskrit base, is now only around 5% sanskrit if that. It became highly persiansed due to the mughals and afghans i think,so it has a lot of persian 30-40% a lot of shina and other dardic language mixtures too, as well as a bit of punjabi 5%ish. But it is a very distinct language to all of them. Easiest way to learn is to go to Kashmir to be honest, it has lots of weird pronunciations and would be hard to learn by yourself.

A person from Azad Kashmir speaking Pahari/Potwari will not understand anything in Koshur.

Re: Any Kashmiri speaking?

thank, abdelyuuki.

nice to know and learn all this aout Kashmiri and linguistic richness in the language and its variant dialects.

cant go to kashmir, for now, but inshallAllah, will try to learn some through translated literature of the indigenous languages in Kashmir.

best,
Dushwari

Re: Any Kashmiri speaking?

I am Kashmiri, I went to Muzaffarabad once when I was 6 years old and thats it

Re: Any Kashmiri speaking?

ok anyone know of any good books on history of jammu and kashmir? unfortunately my trek to variety books in lahore didn't give me any results. and all i can find at my uni's library are biased books.

Re: Any Kashmiri speaking?

Oh my god lol! that is not kashmiri!!! That is Potwari/mirpuri/punjabi!!!! My pakistani freind here with me says he think you said "I speak kashmiri" lol.... In kashmiri/koshur, you say it like this....

Be chuus koshur bolaan! = I speak koshur

Its totally different to potwari/punjabi!! Azad kashmiris are not Kashmiri, they are punjabi :( How many times do kashoori people have to say that :( (except migrants from kasheer ofc)

Just to give u people an idea of the lingo, here are some phrases

Varae chu or Varae chivse ? = How are you?

Ahnse varae tashokar or Be chuus theek= Im fine thanks

Ce kaati chiv rozaan? = Where do you live?

Be chus rozaan london maanz = I live in london

Re: Any Kashmiri speaking?

Dont think you'll find many good books, most if not all books are biased towards whichever side it is that wrote them and often completley contradict eachother thus making no sense and confusing the whole world :( best think to do is grab a koshur person and ask them to give u a neutral account of the modern history

Re: Any Kashmiri speaking?

Is kashmiri spoken in muzafrabad? As far as I'm aware Punjabi is spoken there too. Apparently there are only 105,000 speakers of Koshur in the whole of Pakistan compared to 4.5million in Indian occupied kashmir
