Any Idiot Can Become A Parent...

Warning…I’m extremely ticked off!!!

Ok, so…I work at a charter school (where my kids attend), that has open boundries (meaning, as long as we have space in the desired grade level, we take students), we pull from many surrounding school districts, some as much as 20-25 miles away from where the school is located. We have a very ethnically diverse student population, and a good many (about 40%) are qualified free/reduced/economicaly disadvantaged. My job is an office/administrative position, so I have a lot of interaction with parents, pretty much know every student and am privvy to alot of behind the scenes shenanigans. In my year and half at this job, I’ve seen and heard a lot, but what happened today takes the cake! We have a boy in kindergarten who has been a total monster from the beginning of the year. This kid is a holy terror. He started the year off by the usual temper tantrums. He would just walk out of class and wander the halls. That progressed to him kicking, hitting, biting…the principal! There have been a few instances of him throwing chairs. He’s 5 years old and has been suspended 4 times! His parents are total nitwits. They give in to his every whim. There was this one time that he was screaming at the top of his lungs “I WANT $5 AND I WANT IT NOW”, so what does dad do, pulls out a wad of cash and hands it to him! It’s quite ridiculous. He and his 2 older siblings have been kicked off the bus for discipline issues. We hoped that would compel the parents to withdraw him, but no such luck. We called in a behaviour specialist to work with him and things started to calm down. He started taking directions better, and the violence subsided as well. Las week, at dismissal, he refused to get out of his seat and line up. It was fairly obvious that he had an “accident” in his pants. The whole classroom had to be evacuated because it smelled so bad. When Dad finally showed up to get him, I felt so sad watching him go down the hall in smelly, poopy pants. So anyway, yesterday, it happened again!! This time, it was seeping out of his pants, onto the floor. Totally disgusting! Again, Dad came and got him, and he was told by the school nurse, AND assistant principal, that he could not return to school until he was diarreah free for at least 24 hrs. It’s a school policy, and everyone knows it. So what happens…they bring him to school this morning! I called the mom at 8:15 am, and said that they had to immediately turn around and pick him up…her answer “Dad dropped him off, and I’m not driving on highways to come get him”. I reminded her that per the family handbook, which they signed, they have 1 hour to come and get him. Two hours later, still no sign of parents. This poor bacha looked miserable. He kept leaving class and walking towards the bathroom and turning back around. I called Mom again, told her that he does not look well..her answer was “how do you know, are you a doctor?” My response “no ma’am, not a doctor, just a mother of 3 who can tell when a child is not well. You need to get him now.” The answer I got was “I don’t have time for this. I will not come all that way..just take care of him until dismissal and deal with it”. WTF!!! I could not stop the tears from rolling down my face. It was sickening. My principal had to call her back and tell her that if she did not come pick him up in 30 minutes, we would call Child Protective Services. This is just one of the MANY disheartening cases I’ve had to witness.
It’s amazing how you need a license for so many things…drive a car, cut hair, hell, even to go fishing! But any douchebag idiot can become a parent. :teary1:

Re: Any Idiot Can Become A Parent...

oh my feel so bad reading this. But you are right sadly they don't give licenses to get pregnant. and I feel even worse for these kids. It is not their fault they were born to such dimwits.

Can't you call the child protective services if the parents are clearly not taking care of the kids.
Sick that parents are just sitting there letting the kid go through so much embarassment. and Kids can be cruel.

This is so sad. :(

Re: Any Idiot Can Become A Parent...

oh poor kid ......such a miserable situation....

Re: Any Idiot Can Become A Parent...

Very upsetting!

Re: Any Idiot Can Become A Parent...

Sorry to say this but I think apart from parents, your school is a twit for not changing the child in clean clothes and having him wait for parent in dirty clothes.

Re: Any Idiot Can Become A Parent...

THIS is what you call crappy parenting (excuse the pun :o )

We did not have a clean change of clothes in his size, its prime illness season and lots of kids have unfortunately been in and out of the clinic. We keep donated clothes on hand, but they don't always get returned back, so kindergarten parents are asked to keep a spare change of clothes for their children in backpacks for this exact reason . We also do not have shower facilities in our school, it's a small charter school with limited resources, there is only so much that can be done. He wouldn't even get up out of his chair. Three people tried to lift him out and he would not budge, and given this child's tendency to react physically, the assistant principal chose not to force him and scare the other children in class. There was a similar situation with another little kindergarten girl whose parents were late picking her up last month, after being called 3-4 times, and she had a very obvious virus because she was throwing up and having loose bowel movements every 20 minutes, the teacher and nurse used baby wipes to clean her...and you know what..the teacher caught the virus and was running a 102 fever and throwing up by the end of the day. We have had to adopt a zero tolerance policy when it comes to these situations. We cannot risk infecting 408 other students and 35 staff members because irresponsible parents insist on sending there obviously ill children to school even after being told that they cannot return until symptoms have subsided.I don't know about you, but if I get a call saying my child is sick, everything else gets dropped and I haul ass to pick them up, not argue and refuse. In Texas, that qualifies as "medical neglect" and is grounds for CPA to intervene. It is not a school employees duty to clean a child's butt..

Re: Any Idiot Can Become A Parent...

wait so after your principal told her she'd call CPS, what happened next? did the parent come?

Re: Any Idiot Can Become A Parent...

Yeah so did the parents come ..??
I am not sure how responsible the school was to provide clean clothes for the child, but isn't it the parent's job to make sure a sick child does not go to school and even if he did, aren't they supposed to come get him when the school is calling rather than telling they don't have time for it.It sounds very pathetic on their part.

Re: Any Idiot Can Become A Parent...

So sad. :(

Re: Any Idiot Can Become A Parent...

This is so sad...I have no words.

Yes, the mother FINALLY showed up, 3 hours after she was first called. And the first call went out within 15 minutes of the child being dropped off to begin with! Wednesday was our last day of school before the Winter Break, and we had early release at 1:00. Our receptionist was on vacation, so I was filing in up front, or else usually I wouldn't have been so involved. At 10:45, our principal went into a meeting and said that if the child was not picked up within 30 minutes, I was to call CPS, and then come and get it her. Luckily, the mom showed up by 11:15. It was a very emotionally draining day.

poor kid

Re: Any Idiot Can Become A Parent...

sad :( i am thinking what could be playing in little kid`s brain :(

Re: Any Idiot Can Become A Parent...

This is sad but there are MANY cases of abuse/neglect much worse than this. I don't excuse what this parent did.......but heck...at least this boy isn't being beaten, burned, starved, or raped. Its heartbreaking but unfortunately, as someone stated earlier....ANYONE can get pregnant.

I'm surprised you guys gave so many chances to a mother who obviously doesn't care. Instead of calling her 3 different times....I would've called CPS after the first call. Who knows what that boy will go through at home during the holiday breaks.

Re: Any Idiot Can Become A Parent...

The whole pooing in the pants at the age of 5 is like a scene from We Need to Talk About Kevin .... scary.

Re: Any Idiot Can Become A Parent...

this is soo sad :( one of my teacher friend was telling me abt something similar. She is alway getting sick and picking up stuff from her kids in the classroom too. Girls have too many kids, cant take time off from work and push their kids on teachers/school to take care.

I dont knw understand why ppl have more thn one or two kids. I mean after having one you should know you ability to handle kids. Just stop at one, so you can provide the best for just that one (time and money.)

khattichic where in texas are u? and which charter school?

Re: Any Idiot Can Become A Parent...

i feeel so bad for the poor boy :(

Re: Any Idiot Can Become A Parent...

I think that child needs special therapy. He's clearly disturbed, and if there isn't a medical issue, then the parents needs chittars.
