British desis tend to be more established but lower on the socio-economic scale than American desis. I guess it would be much easier to be ocnnected to your roots if you live in Britain since the desis r better established there. However it seems there is more hate there within desis (goes back to the socio-economic status). I haven’t met a British desi in my life. I’m a Hindu Indian-American btw.

Why do people use that, I think foreign-born Desis are more aware of their identity and in touch with their culture than FOBs who are too busy making money and checking the gori mems out.

Did u read the disclaimer? It's merely a means of identifying a group.Perhaps I'll change the acronym to FBUD's(foreign-brought up desis) so as not to offend anyone. I too check out the gori mems. Not a bad way to spend one's time as long as one isn't doing it too much. Thanks for the compliment.

I am a brit-born-desi but have been living in US. I have family there as well as my childhood home.
I think you will see more variation in UK asians than US ones, desis are in posh localities and going to school at Oxbridge, Imperial, LSE etc and are involved in media, government, sports just like they are in slums and ghettos, in lowe paying jobs or on the dole.
The classes of desis are much more pronounced there than here. Although in larger cities like NYC, Chicago, LA, Houston..desis have more variety than smaller cities and that class distance is seen as well, as well as rivalries and fights.
Just last year there were fights at the Indian Parade and Pakistanio parade in Chicago, In the fight after Pakistan Parde some guy got stabbed as well.
The type of idiots who are more likely to engage in violence back home due to their less than steller upbringing and backgrounds, will do the same here. as evident by the lower class desis in UK and the smaller but still as mail crowd in the US. Now one would hope that as people emigrate they would try to improve their lives and raise their kids to be more responsible than their kin may raise their kids in the old country, and there are many ppl who do, but adly there are many who continue the same mentality and approach even after moving out of the old country.
