Any guppies from Manchester?

I’m wanting to work in Manchester in the nearer future, and was wondering which areas I should avoid staying in… Rusholme and Cheetham Hill seems too desified, which areas are classfied as rough and which ones would you reccommend (bit of desi and english mix).

Re: Any guppies from Manchester?

I would recommend Rusholme/Fallowfield, close to the city centre, Universities nearby-so always some young ppl around, nearby to Wimmy Rd-so no probs with food and eating out, Close to train stations, bus stations etc...

Cheetham Hill is too commercialized, full of desi grocery shops etc- slightly run-down too.

If you dont mind the travelling- there are also out-towns eg Oldham Rochdale Bury....all nearby-easy travelling distance, and probably cheaper to live than Manchester itself. Certain areas of these towns have high paki populations, whereas others have a good mix. I'd def recommend moving to Manchester....IT WAS THE BEST DECISION MY GRANDAD MADE WHEN HE CAME HERE FROM PAK....that and obvioulsy marrying my grandma! lol

Re: Any guppies from Manchester?

I would personally avoid Manchester altogether to be honest, its fast becoming the crime capital of England (if it isnt already!).

The increase in gun crime recently is particularly alarming.

Re: Any guppies from Manchester?

zap the gun crime rate is no different to any other major city in the UK, Manchester is definately a good place to live/work, the face of Manchester has changed dramatically over the past ten years,

cooldesimunda avoid areas like gorton, openshaw, clayton, beswick, little bradford etc (basically east manchester) - all gora estates with too many chavs.
like the above person said rusholme/longsight/burnage/fallowfield - all decent areas to live in.

Re: Any guppies from Manchester?

If you compare the crime figures of Manchester to its neighbour Sheffield, which is only 30 miles away, you will see that it has much higher rates.

Re: Any guppies from Manchester?

actually Zap- crime capital of England is Nottingham. Nothing wrong with manchester at all…Its more to do with the areas. I agree the images of places like Moss Side might put ppl off, but thts just one small part of Manchester. You mention Sheffield-who cares about that place anyway???
CoolMunda-move to Manc, and I guarantee that u will leave here more cooler!:hoonh:

Re: Any guppies from Manchester?

I was making the point that althought the two cities are seperated by only 30miles, the crime in Manchester is almost double.

Re: Any guppies from Manchester?

Thanks guys!. some mix views here.....Tacky Sheffield is a no no for me ... Could you name some good schools in Manchester?
