juss wondering…because thats what I plan on doing…My application process starts next year(i am still completing gr.12…so after I get my diploma)…so afterwards I’m hoping to either get in UofToronto and work towards a degree in fashion Design orrrrrr perhaps Fashion of Institute of Technology…theres also a summer program in Milan…sooo it looks pretty amazing to me
Re: Any Fashion Design Students?
i didnt know UofT had a fashion programme.
its a cut throat business, and very very very few make it as designers. most end up in merchandising, or quality control or in factories as seamstresses. give it a good thought before venturing out in this business :)
ive studied fashion arts at seneca college and would highly recommend it... we had graduates from Ryerson coming in and wanting to redo the course cuz they werent taught the practical thinking needed in making clothes.. a design is nothing if you dont know how its going to come together ...
to make it as a designer, you need contacts to work with the big designers, money to start up your own thing, or just sheer luck to succeed.
freelance designing has worked out great for me (i did bridal and formal wear) and i also managed to do something myself from home, on the side. so its not impossible, but very very hard.
best of luck :) .
Re: Any Fashion Design Students?
hey^^
thanks for the reply…I will be looking into Saneca too, the 3 year program looks wicked! very hands on and whatnot
and yes its very hard to get into…and I dont know how its gonna turn out but I have thing to stick to w/e makes me happy, and usually whenever I follow my gut, all works out
another is…I wanna establish my own company, perhaps start with a certain type of clothing and venture out to a whole line… i want to be a designer who is havily inspired by desi culture, cuz I am ![]()
anyways thank you so much for your reply khawateen

Re: Any Fashion Design Students?
oh thats cool, btw FIT in NY is amazing
and I know someone who graduatd from LCF and now she has her own very sucessful accesories line
Re: Any Fashion Design Students?
i doubt about UFT that they offer fashion designing over there...as i did my Fine arts degree from there.
most of the uniz are more towards hand-on learning than theory based.
ps. i think one of my friend was applying to some fashion designing skool...so i will ask her.
Re: Any Fashion Design Students?
No UofToronto has a fashion design program, i think its a 3 year program, you work towards a degree and watnot
Re: Any Fashion Design Students?
hmmmm..any link?
well…my friend is planning to attend fanshawe college in london ontario for fashion merchandising
here is the course list.
Re: Any Fashion Design Students?
I doubt that U of T has a program in fashion design... from what I know, Ryerson is the only "University" offering such a program. FD is usually offered by community colleges and I'm sure Seneca, Humber, and George Brown offer it. Other than community colleges, check out the International Academy of Design & Technology.
Whatever you do, make sure you talk to students and alumni and definitely look at student portfolios and not just ones being presented in promotional material of these institutes.
