am not a day trader. ironically my day job is trading institutional equities... but I'm not a trader in my own portfolio. imo, any kind of day trading/swing trading is a losing game for retail investors. the commissions will kill their gains if any. plus the tax consequences are always there as well... the only way an individual can make money is by leveraging... and leverage can hurt pretty damn bad when things go against you.
and I also don't believe you can get any useful information from technical analysis or charting. only way to make money long-term in stocks is to use a businessman like approach. value stocks, buy cheap ones and be patient. breakout levels, resistance levels, head and shoulders, etc is garbage imo.
I'm a firm believer in value investing. am a devout Graham/Buffett follower. in my personal account, though I've been investing in a lot of reorg situations... this isn't value investing but I've had decent success with this stuff... it's not home runs... but many small but fairly sure gains with relatively little risk...

hey whatever floats ur boat i guess. i am just starting out though so can't really comment on everything, but i know people who have had success in day trading /swing, like u said all with leverage. without it, it's just shooting arrows in air.
