Travelling thru Karachi on a daily basis, I've noticed that almost all of the traffic police and regular policemen that are on the road in their police mobiles are Punjabi. I'm not discriminating but they seem to have no attention span nor the courtesy to listen to what you might have to say or even consider that you're a fellow citizen. I don't blame them.
I think its only natural for them to behave this way. They are given amazingly low wages that have to be sent back to raise families back in punjab. Automatically, this creates frustration. They could care less about the law or how we abide to it and again I dont blame them. They dont have any shame to face because no one knows them in the community. Raising the wages should def be considered because of teh amount of rishwat khori that goes on a daily basis.
I think the govt should appoint locals to serve in the police instead of assigning them away from their families and community. If I knew the guy who was serving at my local train crossing or was taking night rounds on his mobile, I'd think twice about breaking the law. If the guy let his acquaintances get away with teh law, it wouldnt be kept a secret for long and he'd think twice about it too. Plus, he'd be with his family, perhaps even more respected by the people around him.
I don't know if this is vice versa in Punjab tho with Karachiite police. Never been there.
