Those looking up the term anuptaphobia are likely to find the following definition: “fear of staying single.” Yet this definition says little about a fairly common phobia, and doesn’t add that this fear doesn’t just encompass concern about being single. Some people suffer anuptaphobia in the form of being afraid of being married to the wrong person for life. Others more relate the term to gamophobia, which is fear of all things to do with marriage and weddings.
do you believe it exists or its just some psychological bullcrap by shrinks to get more money out of their counselling?
I possibly could have had gamophobia but i have gotten out of it with time n age, duh. lols.
Ofcourse all such fears do exist and are for real. But often they r not at a level for which u need help thru counselling, they autocorrect with time n experience or so i think.
I think this thing called ***anuptaphobia *is more likely to attack our parents much more than us. We are usually chill busy in our careers and work but our moms are usually like 'you shud get married now. See that so and so is now married'. Of course I have also plans to get married but I do not want this process to hinder my routine life. And I am currently not as such going through this anuptaphobia 'fear of satying single' although I have more fear of finding a wrong guy and having a bad experience.

Urgh. What do you mean if it exists or not? It takes one person to feel those fears strongly enough to make it happen. I am pretty sure there is at least one person in the world out there who has those phobias.
Just feeling scared of "being single" or "marriage" doesn't mean you have either one of those. I don't know what the criteria is, but for it to be a phobia, it has to be close to debilitating.
Thirdly, labels help with diagnosis. Yes, they can easily get very limited and cause more problems, but without them, it is like swimming in the pool of "phobias" without knowing what you're scared of.

Then you have anuptaphobia as per the definition :p

my reservation is that one can put 'phobia' against every word and it becomes real. right? I mean GS phobia can be a real thing too by this token.

Right. One can call themselves and others "phobic", just because we have access to that vocabulary. But if one does not fulfill the diagnostic criteria, they wouldn't have that phobia. They may be a little more scared than usual people (or more scared than the people around them. Hey, their circle can be a little crazy), but they may still not have that phobia. The responsibility lies in our tendency to use those terms lightly.
