Anump Kher On PAKISTAN

“..I realize the extent of our biases, and was taken completely by surprise by the love and genuineness of the people. Pakistanis know the culture of India through movies, and feel they know us, whereas we can’t claim to do that and so are not sure what to expect…”

He sounds more intelligent than most Pakistanis these days:

What is your view about the rampant piracy prevailing in Pakistan?

A. I feel that if a government wants it to stop, there is no power on earth that can keep them from clamping down on it, so if it is rampant, that means it doesn’t want to stop it. In Bombay, for instance, the government decided there should be no dance bars — they made sure that they were eliminated. This piracy is frightening and should be halted. Unless the government is just interested in spreading the Indian culture and doesn’t want to protect its own entertainment industry, there is no reason why it should let this illegal cultural invasion take place. It is as important to protect the cultural heritage of your country as it is to become a modern nuclear power.
