Re: Anti Virus Software
forgot to mention that i was considering using CA's antivirus plus spyware. i used it in the past and liked it because they dont keep bugging you to update and buy more things through them.
has anyone tried that?

Re: Anti Virus Software
I have used all the big names (Norton, McAfee, CA etc.), and have found Trend Micro to be the best. It does not eat up memory or slow down the PC. You can continue to work while it runs updates in the background. The scan is pretty fast, and the price is very competitive.
Have heard good things about Kaspersky too, although it is way more expensive than Trend Micro.
Re: Anti Virus Software
My nod is for NOD32. It is user-friendly (which should be good news for you), silent- doesn’t bloat your pc, powerful with a fast engine.
Ask AC to buy it for you or send you a cracked version ![]()
Re: Anti Virus Software
NOD32 works great for me.
Re: Anti Virus Software
sunbelt software's vipre.. scored THE MOST on "PC Antivirus Reviews" ... coming from the forced user of Norton, this was definitely the step up.. configured right, its pretty fast ..
Re: Anti Virus Software
hmm ok :konfused:
I’m leaning towards kaspersky or AVG
can someone plz tell me why kaspersky has an anti virus software specifically for netbooks. why cant we just use the regular one? whats so special about this particular one?
Re: Anti Virus Software
kaspersky is one of the most advanced anti-virus software. its also in my opinion the best. but it does have the tendency to completely put your PC behind an iron wall if you dont know how to configure it properl;y for your use. its for advanced users. im speaking from a first hand experience. you will get annoyed with it after a little while, you need something that does the job its supposed to do and do it silently w/o constantly warning you. catch me drift?
get NOD32
if you wanna get AVG, its good too, just get the freeware version of it and it should protect you 88% of the time which is pretty high percentage anyway knowing your surfing habits :D
Re: Anti Virus Software
^^ free version of avg doesnt have protection in real-time.. u can stick a usb stick or a cd into ur system that might be infected, and (even if autorun disabled) u can catch infection without knowing.. and if things ever reach "generic windows 32 service host" level (generally they do) then it gets painful..
kaspersky whatever, the iron wall is the right expression, but its pretty good too..
Re: Anti Virus Software
ESET NOD32 :k:
Re: Anti Virus Software

rename url
bitdefender and avira are good..
download cracked version.. from any warez site
chk antivirus comparison each yar, as new antiviruses come tht perform better and sometimes old one dont keep up with the new emerging viruses
Re: Anti Virus Software
ESET FTW
i have eset smart security
not a virus ever :D
Re: Anti Virus Software
I have AVG AND Lavasoft on my desktop and it works fine. My son had NOD32 on his laptop and he loved it. The best solution for virus problems though?? I just bought an Mac notebook. 98% of viruses affect a windows environment so you are less likely to be affected when using a Mac.
My nod also goes to Nod32 for the least memory consumption or taking too much computer resources.
Whatever you use, there are a couple things you can do to protect yourself.
Make sure your software is always up to date. Free anti virus softwares dont have an auto update setting so you should do that daily.
Scan daily. Again, if your software doesnt have this setting, remember to do this regularly.
Use online scanners like Kasperskys or Macafee to scan for possible non detected threats regularly. They wont clean up the viruses but you get a back up scan.
Re: Anti Virus Software
^ thanks for that bit of info.
and thanks to the rest of u for your suggestions.
Re: Anti Virus Software
