Anti-semitism on the rise in France?

Its probably not a question of why its happening, but more as to how to stop its spread. What I find more interesting is that it is alleged that the attackers are from North Africa (muslims?) who are taking revenge for the Israeli atrocities in the Middle East and on the other hand they are drawing swastikas all over the place. Like, Hellooooooo… where is the relevance. Is Hitler the best you can come up with in terms of a role model to avenge the killings of muslims?

France has suffered a recent wave of violence against Jewish schools, synagogues and cemeteries.

PARIS, France (Reuters) – French politicians have condemned an apparently anti-Semitic attack on a woman in which a knife-wielding gang on a suburban train cut her hair, ripped her clothes and drew swastikas on her body.

Anti-Semitic attacks in France have risen in recent months and officials say most are committed by Muslim youths angered by Middle East violence.

France has Europe’s largest Jewish and Muslim minorities and racism has become a significant political issue with Chirac concerned widening divisions in French society could harm the country’s image.

Or is vengence the best you can come up with in terms of helping the ummah?

I believe France will grow to be the flashpoint of racial and religous intolerance in the western world. Chirac has a lot more to worry about other than these incidents 'harming the country's image'.

Let’s see Jews bieng targetted, swastikas on graves, the extreme right nationalists rampant in France…yes sure Muslims, must be? :hehe:

Almost funny that CNN chose to omit the description on the attackers while the Guardain had no problem with it…

Swastikas drawn on woman in Paris attack

Amelia Gentleman in Paris
Monday July 12, 2004
The Guardian

A group of young men attacked a mother travelling with her child on a Parisian suburban railway, chopping off her hair and drawing swastikas on her stomach in the latest anti-semitic incident to unsettle France.
President Chirac led a chorus of condemnations from across the spectrum of France’s political elite yesterday, expressing his horror at the “shameful attack”, which came just a day after he launched a nationwide campaign to stem a rise in racist assaults.

Dominique de Villepin, the interior minister, said police had been ordered to speed up attempts to find the men responsible for this “vile” incident.

The attack happened around 9.30 on Friday morning, when the young woman was on a train on the northern outskirts of the capital with her 13-month-old child. A group of six youths, aged between 15 and 20, snatched her bag and rifled through it, seizing on her identity card, printed with her former address in the 16th arrondissment of Paris.

She told police that they shouted: “Only Jews live in the 16th.” The men, who were armed with knives, then pushed her violently, cut off some of her hair (“to keep as a souvenir”, French newspapers reported), and drew several swastikas on her stomach with a black felt-tip pen. Police said the 23-year-old, whose identity has not been revealed, was not Jewish.

The other passengers in the carriage stood by watching, but none of them came to help her, according to the report she made to the police. Her baby was knocked from its push-chair during the attack, but neither she nor the child was badly hurt. The men left the train with her handbag.

Police said some of the men appeared to be of North African appearance, suggesting the assault may have been one of a growing number of incidents provoked by the export of tensions over the Middle East crisis to France, which has both the largest Muslim population in western Europe (some 5 million) and the largest Jewish population (about 600,000).

Hmmm, 6 complaints in the past, little odd…

Doubts amid swastika attack hunt

PARIS, France (AP) – Police patrolled suburban trains on Monday and studied video from surveillance cameras, trying to track down six men who allegedly attacked a young mother and scrawled swastikas on her stomach.

But doubts began to surface about the truth of the attack report that stunned France.

A 23-year-old mother told police that she was robbed by a knife-wielding gang of six young men while riding a train with her infant on Friday morning, then mistreated after being mistaken for a Jew. None of some 20 witnesses came to her rescue, she told police.

Investigators trying to track down the culprits had almost no clues to guide them.

Surveillance cameras at the station where the culprits reportedly left the train showed no young men running from the scene, and no witnesses have come forward despite repeated calls from officials and promises of anonymity.

Both France-Info radio and the television station LCI reported that the young woman had filed several complaints for violence and aggression in the past. Neither provided sources, but LCI said she had filed six such complaints in the past. That information could not be immediately confirmed.

“It is absolutely necessary to have a certitude before speaking,” said Paris Police Chief Jean-Paul Proust, when asked about the case on France-2 television. “I have no certitude.”

Well not really. CNN's news also reported the same and that is what I incorporated in my opening comments. I only posted excerpts and the whole story is given in the link.

Anyway, so this particular attack is doubtful. Or do you think the whole neo-Nazi'ism is exagerrated?

I have my doubts about North African muslims painting swastikas to avenge Palestinian killings. The whole thing doesn't wash.

France as a whole isn't a fan of 'outsiders'. Before becoming President, Chirac called 'France for the French only', and felt sorry for those who had to live with 'the noise and smell coming out of the houses of immigrants.'"

Faisal,

CNN actually waters down the facts:

Anti-Semitic attacks in France have risen in recent months and officials say most are committed by Muslim youths angered by Middle East violence.

Then Thappy goes into the obligatory denial:

*............yes sure Muslims, must be? *

While the Guardian is more detailed reporting:

The other passengers in the carriage stood by watching

Police said some of the men appeared to be of North African appearance

Sounds to me like CNN was watering down the facts to avoid confrontations with CAIR, and that the other passengers clearly saw the perpetrators, and described them.

I think that given the number of times I have seen Nazi references here on Gupshup by Muslims it is not improbable at all that it was Muslim kids. On the other hand, this clash of civilizations may be wearing thin on even the skinheads who have become equal opportunity haters.

** Anti-semitism on the rise in France **

Well you can knock me over with a feather. :smack2:

OG,

The last post by utd suggests the whole “attack” may never have happened. You tell me…?

I would hope that the police would have interviewed the "witnesses" on the train before they discussed this with the press. The Guardian and CNN both reported it as fact. On the other hand, wierd things happen all over the world, and if some woman drew swasticas all over her own pregnant body and cut her hair and reported it to the police as an attack, then that would simply reinforce my prior judgements on the French! :)

^ In either case you win.

Whoopee

if it's indeed orchestrated it wouldn't be the first such incident.. quite a few 'anti-semitic' attacks in the US have turned out to be the 'victims' attempts to garner sympathy and more mileage out of 'anti-semitism'.

sometimes i wonder.. there were probably other people killed in World War 2... maybe millions more... i don't see them clinging to this "victim" mentality throughout their life.. demanding concessions and considerations and squeezing every ounce of sympathy instead of getting up and moving along.

PA, lets just blame the Jews for letting themselves get killed by the Nazis ok?

DOUBTS arose today over an alleged anti-Semitic attack on a mother and her baby on a Paris suburban train.

But police sources today said they were puzzled by “contradictions” that had emerged since the alleged incident on Friday and the lack of confirming evidence.

But investigators said closed-circuit cameras at the station where the 23-year-old woman said the attackers had alighted did not reveal the presence of six youths.

Police were continuing to check all video-surveillance cameras along the line, and officers rode the trains in search of witnesses.

Railway personnel at the ticket office where the woman said she reported the affair could remember nothing about it, the investigators said.

Frank Carabin, a representative of a police officer’s union, said it was curious that no witnesses had come forward, and added that there were inconsistencies in the woman’s statement.

“The inquiry is continuing, but with uncertainties,” he said.

Another police union official, Bruno Beschizza, said, “Contradictions have appeared. There are not enough elements of proof.”

PA, do you give the same advise to Shias about moving on? It’s been some 1400 years.

The reason for that is that Hitler wanted to annihilate the entire race, while Stalin only killed 20 million of his own.

However, it is perfectly understandable that you feel this way for that the Holocaust is not taught in schools in Pakistan, and Jews are taught to be blood sucker. So feel comfort in the fact that you are not alone. Hell, they dont even teach about 3 million Bengalis they whacked as if it were a t-ball scrimmage.

Madhanee, there comes a time that every one has to move on. Does US teach the kids about how spainairds killed muslims in Spain? I did not think so. Lets move on, enough is enough, they are not the only people in the world who have suffered. They are killing innocens every day, I dont see any text books describing how apache helicopters destroy villages and refugee camps..do you?
