Ok, now just pulling quotes from article before I comment…
A South African inventor unveiled a new anti-rape female condom on Wednesday that hooks onto an attacker’s penis and aims to cut one of the highest rates of sexual assault in the world.
“Nothing has ever been done to help a woman so that she does not get raped and I thought it was high time,” Sonette Ehlers, 57, said of the “rapex,” a device worn like a tampon that has sparked controversy in a country used to daily reports of violent crime.
The device, made of latex and held firm by shafts of sharp barbs, can only be removed from the man through surgery which will alert hospital staff, and ultimately, the police, she said.
While I am glad that there is something out there that may or may not help with rapes that will satisfy a vengence bone we all have… I have to ask, how many women would be comfortable knowing that they have inside a device that has those kinds of barbs. I was reading this and cringing. It seems as though the idea is on the right track but it really gives me the willies.
How many of you women would seriously consider this?
NOTICE: I said WOMEN for a reason because we would be the ones ultimately putting this device in bodies. If you are a male please try and utilize what little impulse control you have by limiting your comments to the constructive side of things. Thanks in advance.
Yeah but they're also saying that it might lead to more violence towards women. If a guy tries to rape a woman who has this contraption in her and it clings on to him, he might want to seek revenge and hurt her another way. There are some crazy people out there...Maybe carrying pepper spray would be a better alternative...
A man who looses his organ, wouldnt let her live. Its a high probability. I am not in anyway supporting rapists. I abhor them as much as any one can but we have got to look for more effective methods than this. Besides, how effectively would women utilise this condom? Rapists do not normally alarm their victim so to protect themselves from eventualities, women should normally be armed with it all the time. So would they be wearing it all the time?
Zalim Wadera > You're right, one would have to wear it all the time and that is another problem with it. That's why I think something like pepper spray is better because it gives the victim time to run...maybe not as much as this condom would, but I think it is a less risky alternative. Besides I doubt that it's good for a woman's health (or for that matter a man's) to be wearing something down there all the time.
