**Anti-polio drive: Karachi town residents refuse to get children vaccinated

KARACHI: Despite Sindh government’s efforts to carry out an anti-polio drive, many residents of Gabol Town refused to have anti-polio drops administered to their children, Express News reported on Sunday.
They also misbehaved with health workers administering polio vaccines and strictly forbade them from vaccinating their children.
In the wake of attacks on polio teams in the city, the provincial government had decided to launch day-long anti-polio campaigns in the ‘high risk’ areas.
The Sindh government imposed ban on motorcycle riding in the area where the campaign is being conducted. Hundreds of police personnel, commandos and Rangers personnel have been deployed for the security of the polio teams.
Earlier, District Central deputy commissioner had announced that parents would face arrests without a warrant if they refused to have polio vaccines administered to their children during the drive in the district. However, no arrests have been arrested so far.

What the heck! It’s happening in a city like Karachi. The parents who refused to get their kids vaccinated should be put behind bars and electricity, gas and water connections to their homes should be severed. Why our state has to be so impotent in every single case?

What is wrong with these people. Why can't they just think of their children for once, when they can easily the side effects of not taking the polio vaccine why do they still act so stubborn.

there are quite a few conspiracy theories linked with polio vaccination.

its not just pakistan, unfortunately this jahalat is found in america as well. there is alot of anti vaccination groups here too. I am not sure what the reason in pakistan is ( i once heard that taliban were against vaccines since they are made by Jews LOL) but here they think vaccines have too many side effects.

Causing impotency and US spying on people.
The impotency point predates the spying factor which is the latest and most genuine, thanks to the CIA.
Government cannot do much even if it starts some kind of education campaign because most of the people who refuse the vaccination do not have access to the media.
I think a simple piece of legislation should be introduce to get kids vaccinated almost by force. Instant arrests or at least disconnecting electricity, gas and water lines could be used as deterrence to get things done.
