This might steal some limelight away from Akshey, but here is a Pakistani celebrity/icon off to promote peace b/w the two countries....

I've been invited to London in August to be part of a panel discussion
on peace prospects between pakistan and India.I'm thinking out aloud
so let me know what you guys think and try to be brief!
1) both the states and their medias should stop demonising each other.
pakistanis and Indians come from the same genetic stock *but we let
superstition, religion and politics prevent us from progressing. *
2)TO USE MUSIC AND FILMS TO HELP BUILD TRUST BETWEEN PEOPLE.For 50 years the state has tried to limit exposure of each other's pop culture and it has failed miserably!pakistanis watch indian movies and Indians listen to pakistani music ( by the way Omar sharif's theatre plays are a huge hit in India's pirate video markets)so if we can tolerate each other's music, drama and humour why can't we use cultural expression to create greater understanding of each other?
we're so wound up by history we've forgotten to live in the present and are totally blind about the future.japan and america found a way to peace after pearl harbour and hiroshima.germany made peace with the world after world war 2 and both japan and Germany are leading economic powers today.
3)we need to humanise each other.stop looking at each other as hindus/muslims/sikhs/christiansa but as people first.
rameez raja and ravi shastri get along great at india/pak matches,
both love their country yet they can put political/religious differences aside and share their common love for a game.I have the deepest respect for so many of India's singers and composers.I've been introduced to so many of their legends and person to person they are just like you and me,HUMAN.In fact one of the biggest junoonis I know is Sayonee from new Delhi who has been our biggest indian friend from way before Sayonee became a hit in India.
4)if indian and pakistani students can share the same dorms in western universities why can't pakistani/indian students get visas to visit each other's countries?
5)the common enemy for india and pakistan is religious extremism.*These lethal minority of thugs have hijacked the debate on peace. How can there be cooperation to minimize the spread of religious hatred. *
6)the entire world is eyeing the subcontinental market. Are we going to be blinded again by bigotry, hate and fanaticism and give up on all the potential profits to the ferangis (yet again!)
8)what about doing something about copyright piracy. There are writers',poets, filmmakers, composers who can't afford to make the arts a lifelong pursuit while it's the blood of the artist which brings hearts together...

Good luck Salman! Here is what a new friend of mine (asif_k hope you dont mind, ive posted ur comments) thinks about Salmans views(believe me, me and asif_k werent friends at first, and I believe if us two can become friends, any Indian/Pakistani can, and I must say Junoon/Bollywood icons helped us become friend).

It's really nice to see people like Salman Ahmad speaking up. India/Pak have many common enemies such as poverty, illitracy, religious extremism and corruption and many other ills of our society. For us it's more important to educate our people and provide them a decent living. Instead of spending Billions of dollars on military and Army we should use them on developing our Land and helping other poor countries of the world.
If you can pass this mesg to Salman - then please tell him we in India have nothing but love for him and lot of respect and regard for his efforts. May god bless him, you, me, our people and may god bless both our countries.
Insha Allah ek din jaroor aayega jab ye dono mulq fir se dost ban jaayenge
Take Care and Peace. Asif K.

Another thing I also want to emphasize, that Salman mentioned in point 6. Its true that the world is eyeing the subcontinent, and India in particular. The best jobs in countries such as the US are going to India these days. We, Pakistan should also join hands with India in this educational/technological venture they are embarking upon, as we will benefit a great deal from it.
