Racial tensions spark violence in Sydney

Police fought running battles with demonstrators who attacked Middle Eastern-looking people on a beach in Sydney, Australia on Sunday in a clash that resulted in at least six arrests and several injuries.

About 5,000 people had gathered on Cronulla Beach to denounce what they said were racially motivated attacks on two lifeguards last week. Those in the crowd said a gang of Lebanese youths were responsible for the assaults.

Officers used batons and pepper spray to disperse the crowd after some of the demonstrators, many chanting racial slurs, hurled beer bottles and stamped on police vehicles.

Ken Moroney, police commissioner of New South Wales, said the mob broke the windows of an ambulance and attacked two paradmedics. In another incident, people chased a woman on the beach because of her race.

“That woman was literally saved by the police officers and those officers deserve my highest commendation for the way they went about their task,” he said. “The other equally offensive conduct, the absolutely total un-Australian conduct, was an attack on an ambulance.”

Five people were injured in the confrontation. They included a young man who was hit on the forehead with a bottle when he tried to discourage the racial slurs.

As evening fell, the violence spread to other Sydney neighbourhoods. In Maroubra, a group of youths smashed the windshields of about 100 cars, police said.

A 23-year-old man was in hospital in serious condition after a fight in Woolooware. A radio report said he was stabbed in the back. Police said the man and his friends had been fighting with a “group of males of Mediterranean or Middle Eastern appearance.”

Dozens of police in riot gear also were involved in a confrontation with youths in the Brighton-le-Sands neighbourhood close to Sydney’s Botany Bay, Australia’s Sky News reported.

Such race riots instigated by the Australians reflect on their true colors.

True terrorists are the two namak haram B's. If they had not gone on their revenge spree killing ten of thousands of innocents to take revenge for the 3000 odd innocent people killed in the twin towers all this would not have happened. After all their killing they have not been able either to capture bin laden or destroy his organization, what a failed and pathetic operation by these two morons. This type of heinous state terrorism brings nothing but misery to everyone.

SYDNEY, Dec 13 (Reuters) - A second night of unrest in Australia’s biggest city Sydney left seven people injured and dozens of cars damaged in apparent reprisal for racial violence on a city beach at the weekend, police said on Tuesday.

Gangs of youths, mainly Muslim and from Middle East backgrounds, attacked several people with baseball bats, vandalised cars and had running skirmishes with police, they said.

At one beach, Maroubra, police said they found 30 Molotov cocktails and crates of rocks stockpiled on rooftops along the beach’s main road.

“Eleven men were arrested and seven people, including a police officer, were injured in a second night of unrest,” police said on Tuesday.

Racial violence erupted at Sydney’s Cronulla Beach on Sunday when some 5,000 people, some yelling racist chants, attacked youths of Middle Eastern background.

Drunk and angry mobs of youths, some wrapped in Australian flags, said they were defending their beach after lifesavers were attacked there last week. They believe the attackers were of Lebanese background.

Police said white supremacists had incited the Cronulla crowd to violence.

Sydney’s Lebanese youths struck back on Sunday night, smashing cars, assaulting people and fighting police in several different suburbs.

On Monday night hundreds of Muslims staged an angry standoff with police outside Sydney’s main mosque at Lakemba in the city’s western suburbs.

Up to 25 cars with youths then drove to Cronulla and used baseball bats to damage cars and smash windows, police said.

One man suffered head injuries after being attacked at a youth hostel, while another suffered broken ribs and head injuries after he was attacked while putting out his garbage bins.

Local media reported that mobile telephone text messages circulating amongst Muslim youths were calling for payback for the violence on Sunday.

At Maroubra Beach in the city’s east hundreds of local surfers gathered, angry that Muslim youths raided their beach on Sunday night, vandalising some 10 cars and attacking people.

Police said a sweep of the beach’s main road uncovered more than 30 home-made petrol bombs and crates of rocks stockpiled.

I live in Sydney. The situation has been brewing for a while.

The European Australian fears the 'muslim jihadi' especially when more than a hundred were killed in Bali, and all the negative news from USA, England and recently France, has feuled their anger..

Unfortunately the Lebonese here have mostly been associated with gangs, robbery and rape.

My biggest fear is what will happen, if there is a real Jihadi bomb attack in Australia - things could get ugly.

Integration between varying groups will cause the "natives" to take a more proactive approach against hate groups thus stifling their influence on youth and the community at large.

The australians were a race of people who tried to exterminate the local native population for which they actually hired and arranged hunting parties...

And there were no Maulanas amongst the Aborigines, so why were they being wiped out? Just because they were different...

Australians may have cleansed abos, but they never tried to repeat that process with other minorities.

Muslim immigrants enjoyed widespread acceptance in European societies barring few bad incidents. One reason was that Muslim immigrants showed up in Europe mostly in the post WWII era. Secondly these Muslims were hardworking family oriented people who fit nicely in the overall vision of any society.

However 9/11 and Bali bombings have changed the picture. These incidents could not have happened at the worst time. With internet, global media, and instant news coverage, the last thing we Muslims needed was "bad coverage".

Unfortunately many among us have now chosen the tribal ways of ancient times, where bharak bazi (sloganeering) was considered "macho and manly" compared to diplomacy that was treated as "weakness".

What Maulanas of Bali failed to understand was the fact that it is no time to be exploding suicide bombs. By killing few Australians, they would jeopardize Australian Muslims, and destroy the chances of trading with Australia.

It is the time to hold our holy book Quran high and talk about peace even when subjected to injustice. It is time to ask Allah to forgive our sins, and ask for His mercy. Things do not look good when Maulanas are hell bent on killing and bombing even in their own countries.

The whites never "integrated" into native (aboriginal) Australian society, so why should other immigrants have to do that? I know a lot the whites are descendants of convicted rapists, thieves and murderers from the British Isles, but do they have to live up the name of their forefathers?

It’s even worse when a people of a nation (Ummah) in this case advocating throwing up your hands and shouting for mercy at the first sign of enmity.
