Answer to a few questions.

I think this shows the gap between our education system and Indian education systems and how the are constantly working to update it. This is at the secondary school level, don’t know how big a gap is there at the higher levels ?

A NEW BD75,000 state-of-art biotechnology lab was opened at the Indian School, Isa Town, yesterday.

It was officially opened by executive committee chairman P V Radhakrishna Pillai.

The school was granted permission by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) New Delhi to start the course for classes XI and XII.

Mr Pillai said it was the first time for this elective to be offered to senior secondary students in Bahrain.

“Biotechnology is gathering momentum with its vast exposure to various career fronts which could be graded as a major scientific revolution after Information Technology,” he pointed.

“We are happy to introduce this new course with the most modern laboratory facilities to give our students the very best education.”

The combination of electives offered with Biotechnology are Physics, Chemistry, and Biology or Mathematics and English.

“The new academic year has much more to offer students. With an aim to diversify the streams of study to suit the taste of students, Multimedia and Web Technology, Physical Education and Computer Stream were introduced as new electives in the Commerce and Humanities stream,” said Mr Pillai.

“The Science departments now have independent laboratories for the junior sections to promote scientific inquiry among students,” he said.

Several other labs are also being set up at the school and will be opened during this academic year, which began in March and continues until February.

They include a Psychology lab for Commerce and Humanities students, a lab for Informatics Practices, Multimedia and Web Technology and a Mathematics lab, which follows the requirements of the new CBSE curriculum.
