Right on!
Taliban is a menace that should not be tolerated at any cost. With India we can negotiate, and Indians can be pressured by the world community. Talibans on the other hand are aiming for jannat + 72 hoors. So there is no way to move them from their position.
Zakk! It is not ANP's fault. Certain areas of Pakistan are simply copying the "good" habits of Afghans. The same habits of uncouth tribalism that lead to the utter destruction of Afghanistan, are now destroying Pakistani areas brick by brick.
ANP is trying to stop it, but it won't help. They talk about Pashtuns and project ethnicity based politics. That precisely is the source of tribalism in Afghanistan, and hence the same disease is killing Pakistanis in the Frontier and Karachi. MQM too is a tribal and ethnic party and no wonder they have turned Karachi into another Kabul.
BTW the above analysis is not only applicable to Afghanistan but every other tribal society from Africa to the Middle East.
Tribalism today has produced the same devastation not only in Afghanistan but other cesspools like Somalia, Liberia, Congo, Sudan, Lebanon, and Sierra Leon.
It is time for the intellectuals in Pakistan to reject tribalism, ethnicity, or religious chauvinism. In today's world, the only way to survive as a country is to adopt pro-Pakistan nationalism that also makes us a good and tolerant global citizens.
Tribalism is not a problem man, which had existed since millinia without any contradiction with religion or any connection with Pan-Islam or Islamic terrorism.
All the terrorist/extremist tendencies you see have emerged during the last 60 years.
The seed was sown when Iqbal raised the slogan "aik hoon Muslim haram kai pasbani kai liyai ...neel kai sahil sai lai kar tha ba khakai kashaghar" or "dashth to dashth darya bhi na chorai ham nain--Bahr-ai-Zulamath main dawra diya gorai ham nain" and Choudri Ramat Ali stepped forward and coined the term "Pakistan" which literally means "land of the faithful".
Association with religious chauvinism is sort of natural and firmly engrassed in the ideological foundations and institutional foundations of Pakistan.
When General Mahmoud Ahamd, a Pakistani nationalist, allegedly wires 200000 dollars to 9/11 terrorists or Air Chief Marshal Mashaf Ali Mir works as a point man between Al-Qaueda and Pakistan Amy or General Hamid Gul working as a Godfather to Al-Qaueda and Taleban or Hafiz Mohammad Saeed, Mualana Masood Azhar, Lakhvi, etc. promote subversion, that is not out of tribalism.
The fact is, to most Pakistanis, Pakistan with its strong army, nuclear weapons, and Islamic identity, symbolizes the power of Islam... that is where the problem lies.
It is unfortunate that more and more of internaional opinion holders are getting convinced that Pakistan cannot be transformed.
