This army of Mujahideen in 80s and terrorists now was created to fight Soviet Union, when the Afghan-Soviet war was over, the main handlers of these armed groups, Zia ul Haq and Gen Akhtar Abdul Rehman was killed in a bomb blast, in US, Regan Govt was replaced by Bush govt. and these thousands of trained men, who originally needed to be in dissolved in Afghan Army of Independent Afghanistan, went orphan. Where any warlord could have them and use them as per his will, the six years of Afghan civil war is prime example of this, then US and Pakistan under Gen (R) Naseer Babar organized the group which later was known as Taliban, the Taliban then took over almost 90% of Afghanistan and civil war was over… and peace returned to the region.. till Osama bin Laden was thrown out of Saudia and Sudan and he took refuge in Afghanistan and then happened 9/11…
Not that i am backing anyone here, but whenever a group of armed people (thats what US called Talibans 
) were raised to fight with a country and if that group of fighters is not terminated or dissolved in the army, then what happened here is bound to happen… US did that in Libya and Syria and we can see the result.
