Another Taliban leader caught in Pakistan

Looks like Pakistan is no longer a safe haven for Afghan Taliban as another Taliban leader has been caught.

Reports: Another Taliban leader caught in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD – A top Afghan Taliban leader has been captured in Pakistan in what would be the fourth detention in recent weeks of senior members of the insurgent group, U.S. media reported Tuesday.

Mullah Abdul Kabir, a member of the militia’s ruling council, was picked up several days ago in Nowshera district in Pakistan’s northwest, according to reports in The New York Times and Washington Post that cited unnamed Pakistani security officials.

Pakistani officials declined to confirm the reports to The Associated Press.

If confirmed, the arrest would be a further sign that Pakistan is turning away from its old strategy of allowing Afghan Taliban leaders safe haven in the country — something that could have far-reaching implications for the U.S.-led war in Afghanistan.

Last week, Pakistani and American officials said the No. 2 Afghan Taliban leader, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, had been caught some 10 days earlier in the southern Pakistani city of Karachi.

Two other Taliban leaders — Mullah Abdul Salam of Kunduz province and Mullah Mohammad in Baghlan province — were arrested separately in Pakistan about 10 to 12 days ago, according to the Kunduz governor, Mohammad Omar.

The reports gave few details of Kabir’s arrest, except that it happened recently.

Re: Another Taliban leader caught in Pakistan

how many more "TOP" taleban leaders are there? everytime some US official visits Pakistan or a Pak top hooncho visists the west, a couple of "top" al qaeda or taliban or similar is either caught or drone blasted.

Why doesn't the Pakistan government just grab them all in one drive - they proved they can do that even in Waziristan, so Karachi should be easier, given the better informer networks

Re: Another Taliban leader caught in Pakistan

Because it doesn't serve our national interest?

Re: Another Taliban leader caught in Pakistan

^ if that is true then it is an acknlowledgement that government of Pakistan believes terrorism as part of its governance.

Re: Another Taliban leader caught in Pakistan

Nope. It believes that we have allies in Afghanistan. Unlike India which uses its Army to commit terrorism.

Re: Another Taliban leader caught in Pakistan

CM - sorry, I love debating but cannot have patience for juvenile arguments. You said catching terrorists is not in Pakistan's national interest, not me. If you don't like the effect of what you said, just admit you made a mistake and move on, instead of arguing with yourself.

IPOD,

If you start walking on the line with conspiracy theories, then how can you reach an objective analysis?

If Pakistanis start off with conspiracy theory that America is anti-Islam, then how can we learn anything from the USA?

So leave your constipated conspiracy theories about Pakistan first,

If you want to hear or learn from an objective analysis.

Thank you.

Re: Another Taliban leader caught in Pakistan

^ why do you think I am falling for a conspiracy theory? I was merely pointing out to CM that if he holds on to his "it is not in Pakistan's intersts" then the direct implication of that is something worse. Doesn't mean I agree with him - take it as my pointing out to him the implication that he doesn't seem to have meant or understood

If you are going to argue with CM, May Allah help you find the truth :)

Seriously, you will go with conspiracy theories (without even knowing about it)

when you start your post as you did in #2 and I quote:

This is where you implied conspiratorially that Pakistan captures or kills a Talib only when US officials are in Pak, or Pak officials (you mockingly called them honcho) visit US.

You stated that WITHOUT any reference to a particular Talib. This is what we all say "conspiracy theory", that is something is fishy in there. You perhaps should note that Talibot rats are captured all the time (and why not? they live next door), and US officials big or small are visiting Pakistan ALL the time. So no matter what Talib kill/capture would happen either before or after a US official's visit.
**
It is almost like saying that whenever sun rises or sun sets, that Pakistan captures a Talib. Off course that is a self-supporting logic, correct logic, but useless for deducing anything serious.
**

Coming back to this thread.

Did the conspiracy theorists consider the fact that-----

------ NATO has launched a MAJOR offensive on Talibots' home bases?

And that pressure is forcing these cockroaches out of their den and into crossing the border into some "perceivably" hiding place? And while doing so, they are getting caught?

Off course this explanation won't put Pakistan into bad light, and thus many Indians won't be interested in it (perhaps some rational Indian like yourself are the exception).

Thank you.

p.s. you may question as to why Paks won't shut down their border with Afghanistan. But that's separate discussion.

Re: Another Taliban leader caught in Pakistan

Yadda yadda blah blah. Let me point a few things. Nelson Mandela was a terrorist. So was George Washington. In this case certain groups forward Pakistans agenda in Afghanistan while others do not.

You follow the american point of view that they are all terrorists till the Americans say other wise. After all Dostum was a terrorist who worked actively with the Taliban till he switched sides. Now he is Kosher.

It is a fluid environment. What you call a terrorist I merely consider a means to an end.

Re: Another Taliban leader caught in Pakistan

^^ I can rest and sleep chief's in guantanamobay.. based on above argument he can justify any killings.. btw nelson mandela/washington are not of same league as dostum or your jihadi ideals..

Re: Another Taliban leader caught in Pakistan

No the point is that one day they are terrorists and the other day they are Kosher. That is main gist of the situation. Two years from now the every men they wish to kill maybe sitting in different ministries running Afghanistan.

There are no permanent friends, only permanent interests in Politics.

Re: Another Taliban leader caught in Pakistan

^^ shouldn't take names of mendela and dostum in same sentence then..what you wanted to say loses all meaning...

Re: Another Taliban leader caught in Pakistan

Actually it holds more meaning. Because Mandela was a terrorist but then made kosher. Same was done with Dostum. One day enemy. The next day best friends and world hero.

Only difference is the calibre of the man. Not what happened to their reputation.
