Another screen resolution problem

My Dell Latitude LS’s cheapass video card (NeoMagic MagicGraph256AV) supports only 800 x 600 and 1024 x 768 in 24 bit colour and 1280 by 1024 in 256 colours. I just recently bought a widescreen monitor with an aspect ratio of 1.6 unlike the regular monitors which have aspect ratio 1.33.

Right now im running at 1024 x 768 and the display is sorta ‘stretched’ horizontally which is kinda wierd. I want to somehow force my graphics card to display a resolution of 1024 x 640 (or anything with ratio 1.6)

The other option is to reduce my monitor’s screen size horizontally but just my luck, this Acer AL1916W doesnt have the option of resizing screen

I came across a software called PowerStrip that can apparently make your graphics card do things it wouldnt normally do. Sadly PowerStrip too is useless against the might of my old school graphics card.

I could get another computer.. but before i do that.. is there anyway i can force my video card to display a certain resolution?

Re: Another screen resolution problem

you bought a nice monitor without a nice HP pc,,, yaar meri mano and buy a HP media center PC,,, with ATI graphic card,,, it would be better for you,, it only costs here $1099 USD, I think in canada, it would be more cheap. and forget Dell,, use HP I also have HP pc,, it doesn't have a problem yet,
