I go to a local brown grocery store to get some khajoors. There were two packages. One had small khajoors the other had large khajoor. The small ones looked pathetic and crappy but since I didn’t know the difference I took them both to the counter and asked this lady what the difference was…and which one was better tasting in her opinion. The packages cost the same so it didn’t matter really. Her response?
Well the small khajoor are from medina so you know I can’t say anything about them, obviously. Aaap khud hi decide karlain.
I was kinda annoyed at her inferiority complex. I left the store after putting both khajoors back. I bought them from a big grocery chain store instead…and those were from Khairpur, Pakistan. They were large, sweet, dark and very moist.
No honest the dates I bought from Madina and dates I have this year are chewy. I bought them from Sainsburys!!
oops! i meant DRIED...oh ok :) i have never tasted any khajoor from the middle east. :(
hahahhaa we think if we say anything negative about anything from makkah and median its blasphemy.
i dont like the small ones because their skin is too tough and scratches my throat. i prefer the big soft ones. and dates r grown all over the world even the ones that r imported from medina u can prolly get the same type grown locally or not, but the point is khajoors r khajoors nothing sacred about them to be honest
My parents went for Umrah in late June and i requested them to bring some extra dates for me from Madina. So when i came back from Pakistan last month, i brought a plenty of stock with me to survive whole month of Ramadan...........Yummy :D

Yes, that was my point as well. It's such a backward, "paindoo production," mentality and it cost her loss of business from me too. So, in essence, an inferiority complex is also a poor business strategy. By the way, the big ones I bought from another store, which were from khairpur are AWESOME!
