I lived in Islamabad from November 1990 to March 1992. During that period I felt at least 5 earthquakes over there. The worst was on 1 February 1991 at 4.05am. That was something 6.8. The entire apartment building was moving like a pendullum! Everyone woke up!
Sadly we did not take those warning signals seriously and did not prepare ourselves for the big day - that occured on 8 Ocotober 2005.
Recenlty Japan had an earthquake of 7.2 with the least number of causaulities! They are well prepared for these disasters.

DUDE! i remember the february 1991 quake! that was prolly the worst one I ever experienced!!!! We all woke up and ran out!
8th oct one was total disaster .........even thinking abt it gives creeps ....i was in car while earthquake came today...missed it but heard this one was quite strong too
There are far more and far instense earthquakes in California, USA. )Indeed geologist predicts in thousands years time, California will be separated from the mainland USA and will become an Island).
But there only few casualities in earthquakes over there as they are like Japan are fully prepared.
so qiyyamat is not so far....as these are signs of qiyyamat as in hadees
That's the problem with us! We believe qiyama is near so we should sit back and wait and do not take any preventive action.
This is the same kind of mentality which causes most road accidents in Pakistan. Oh ji muat jaisay likhi who to aani hia! And then they drive recklessly!
thats sad and at the same time worrisome. I had recently moved to Islamabad when the October 8th earthquake took place. That was really an experience of my life. I braved the major two quakes that shook everything around and instead of running out started praying but what got me big time were the after shocks and tremors amidst the thunderstorm that night. I have never in my life felt so scared and the fact that most of the people at the mess had fled added to that fear or lets say misery. The cracks in the walls of my room made things look more spooky it was like a scary scene from a horror movie.
But Karachi’s situation is even more dangerous as we are on a major fault line. keep that in context and think about the quality of construction and type of material that goes into the making all those tall buildings; its really a hopeless situation as there is no concept of urban planning, no checks and balances…nothing at all. There were minor shocks here too few days back.
Allah reham karay.
It was not only in isloo, it happened in Peshawar too, I ran out only in my "undies"and my aunt was quite crossed.
* well I sleep only wearing an underwear* :)
