Sometimes my PC wont switch off properly. I shut it down as usual and it seems to be shutting down but gets stuck on the blank screen just before shutdown. If I down’t switch it off at the mains it will stay like that forever so I end up having to switch it off. What could be the reason for this?

What windows are you using?
What is your motherboard chipset? if dont know - wats ur computer speed?
Could be variety of reasons. Was it workin fine before?

I bought it second hand recently. Its AMD Duron 700mhz. It works ok sometimes.

Format & have a clean install of Windows on ur box .... it will sort ur first as well as this problem.

get a windows cd and install it urself. If you don’t know how to do that, ask around, there might be someone who would be able to help you out. I don’t think its sensible to pay for something like this.
However, if still you don’t find anyone, then goto a computer shop and ask them about their prices and stuff.

btw, before reinstalling — give this a shot
Go to Control Panel → double-click the Power icon and set the Power Management setting to Off. http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=136651
also, try shutting down by going to command prompt (Start–>Run–> type** shutdown -f** and hit enter)

oh ho… usse invite karne deti na j.k. mano na mano… that was a sincere attempt to fix the shutdown problemo… i was actually expecting the invite for the next problem
