Even so, the point is that he had other routes to voice his displeasure. What he did may have been protectecting 'brother Muslims' in his view but it also risked harming other fellow humans.. he didn't have to do that.
Salaams to the muslims and Hi to the non-muslims

The only reason i am taking their side is because they are muslim and we muslims unify based upon belief, also what america has done by invading a muslim country is to steal the oil and stop the resurgence of political Islam. If their was a wat between america and Russia then we muslims would want it to continue for as long as possible and also arm both sides to the teeth, ring any bells with american foreign policy when iraq was fighting Iran.
Imadad
brother i think it is time for you to abandon your defeatist mentality and realise that america has never liked muslims who follow Islam in its entirety because the Islamic ideology is a threat to capitalism. Muslims are forbidden from joining the american army and pledging allegiance to america, rather our allegiance is to Allah. Many muslims in the american army have a dilemma when it comes to killing fellow muslims in Iraq etc, why is this ? on one hand they join the american army and on the other hand they have problems with killing muslims, its because they have a confused identity, they need to ask themselves are they americans or are they muslim, do they agree with and follow american values or Islamic values? also if Ali RA was alive today and lived in america would he join the american army and kill fellow muslim in najaf, karbala etc. or would he work as part of an Islamic movement to establish Islamic rule? I await your reply inshallah
Mr fraudia
From where do you derive your views as regards good and bad is it Islam or the western culture? Muslims measure actions according to halal and haram while for non muslims its their mind which tells them right and wrong. Muslims are one ummah our allegiance is to Allah in all circumstances. Also can you please refrain from abusing and slandering your brothers in islam, this will earn you the respect and admiration of all muslims who visit this forum and Allah will reward you in the akhira, as the Prophet Muhammed said " The believer is the brother of a believer, he does not slander him or let him down".

You are making it sound like Iraq was following Islam and US attacked Iraq to destroy Islamic ideology. Its far from that. US needed to make region safe for Israel, get some benefit in that adventure (thats in shape of Oil) and keep its nation silent regarding issue of terrorism. Its less of anti-Islam, more of imperialism.
Showkot, why are their muslims in the american army? Who told them to join up or move to America? Are they all traitors?

Are we in a position to arm them?

I never said iraq was following the Islamic ideology and if i gave that impression then i apologise. All the points you mentioned are valid, but america is fully aware that the masses in the muslim world desire to live according to Islam and hence the position of the american paid muslim rulers is very shakey and america cannot rely upon them any more so they need to have a military presence in the middle east to prevent any regime change by the sincere muslims.
Imdad
The reasons why there are muslims in the american army is because of the following reasons, some convert to Islam after joining the army and some were originally muslim and joined the army looking for a good career. The issue is a muslims loyalty and allegiance is to Allah not any type of man made constitution. Also is is forbidden for a muslim to fight and kill other muslims and also to help the non-muslims against muslims. Ant muslim who turns his back on Islam and carries non-Islamic ideas is a traitor to Allah and his Messenger saw. I dont know who told them to join if it was a muslim then he is misguided and as for moving to america or any other country, we have to believe and remember that the whole world belongs to Allah.
Spock
The muslim countries have a combined army of millions of soldiers also we have an arsenal of the latest weapons what is lacking is the political unity and will which is what divides the muslims today, we need to work for the unification of muslim lands and the implementation of the Islamic ideology.
Considering the fact that nowadays, Muslims in America tend to be scrutinized with a microscope regardless, this shouldnt surprise anyone. It shouldnt be extraordinary for the chaplain to be in possession of a map detailing locations of the prisoners. He worked there a long time. He would be able to remember their locations anyway. As for the other guy, the list of charges is extensive...but the nature of none of them has been detailed. While that is fine, it also leaves doubts as to what he could have been involved in. There are many situations (that specifically apply to muslims, more so to those in the military) that would be normal 3 years ago, but now would be considered as espionage......stuff like taking pictures of a dam, which previously would have been a tourist activity.....can now get you into jail on suspected terrorism charges. So arent we jumping the gun by assuming that this guy has spoiled things further for other muslims who are serving in the military? The kind of charges that hes facing (more than 30 charges relating to espionage, aiding the enemy, disobeying orders, and making false official statements) sound very vague, and until we receive the exact nature of these charges, the guy must have the benefit of doubt.
Im sure we have all seen or heard of muslims who were arrested after sept 11 with little or no reason. Heck we saw a chemical engineer get arrested because he was seen rinsing his pot, preparing it to make biryani. The soap water inside the pot was assumed by neighbors and police to be anthrax.

What he allegedly did is against the rules of the organization he is a part of i.e. spying.
There are many ways he could have voiced his displeasure, Israeli military people are getting in trouble because they are speaking up against what they deem is not right,a nd are being punished for it but are making a point. Muhammad Ali also refused to serve and paid heavily for standing by his principles.
The person in question acted like a weasel, he did nto stand up for his beliefs, he did not voice them, he did not try to make a difference, he chose to do something illegal.
He had 2 other options, leave the military, or speak up... he chose niether of those 2 paths. he did not seperate his path nor did he take a stance, he acted like a weasel.
as far as referring to my muslim brethren, I will refer to them as ai choose based on their actions..Just because they happen to be born in the same faith as I was does nto mean that they automatically get my respect regardless of what my views are about their actions. Because by this token, I should be referring to murderers of siaph e sahaba and sipah e muhammad the psychotic sectarian groups with respect as well?
I dont think so.
Officials: Guantanamo translator arrested
WASHINGTON (CNN) – A civilian translator who worked with the U.S. military base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, was arrested Tuesday after immigration officials at Boston’s Logan Airport found what are alleged to be classified materials in his possession, U.S. officials confirm.

I think US also knows that the current state of Muslims is not strong enough to make a regime change anywhere in the world, except for Afghanistan which was destroyed by 15-16 years of war already and posed no danger at all to US or any other country.
Fraudia Esponiage is part of life. A great deal of the major victories that make this world a safer place are based on acts that you describe as an illegal act. Men believed that Hitler was wrong and provided locations and information.
By your statements a man who aided in defeating Hitler was one who:

America defeating hitler was based on such weasel acts. Collaborators, turn coats etc. Yet these men are considered by many, and i bet you do as well as heros. As they did what they believed was right.
^ So you are saying these terrorist sympathizers are heroes?
Another Cunning linguist Snatched at Gitmo
They just keep coming. Is there any way to screen for translators. Perhaps only non-Islamic linguists, as the religious ties seem to have a propensity to supercede duty to country.
^ strange that isn't it....maybe the inmates only speak Islam as opoosed to arabic.
I overheard a conversation whilsting waiting to board a plane from the US earlier this year, two American ladies,
Chubby lady 1 "Isn't it awful what's happening in that country.....what's it called... "
Chubby lady 2 "Islam"
Chubby lady 1 "Yeah Islam"
Thank God they flew them cattle class.
Marvelous as usual, but don't Muslims and the prisoners perhaps speak a language or two other than Arabic?
Anyway, I'll never visit Islam. No Budweiser.
One mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter.
Lets remember that Mandela was also a terrorist.
I guess in addition to Islam, there are about 17 different languages.
American is still the best language, however.
Now, is there a risk in using Muslim translators? I know there will be exceptions, but the prevailing attitude here seems to be that fidelity in Islam is the first duty. So, realistically should the U.S. reconsider this or screen these guys more. Or do we get into an ugly profiling mess?
CM
people who spied on hitler were part of a nation's intelligence service.
last time I checked al kayda was not a country but an outlaw organization. they are not serving the interests of a nation, even if they try to portray themselves as some sort of defenders of the faith.
and whether you are a govt's spy, part of corporate espionage or whatever, once u get caught u get to pay the price. And the price depends on who you are representing and what info are u stealing right...so let them pay the price..
